I read this week a reminder for all of us: “keep away from anything that might take GOD’S place in your heart.”
Keep away, stay away and don’t go near. It is a warning and it is meaningful for us all. The world and all it’s distractions are just that, idols that can take the place of GOD upon our hearts.
So is GOD first for you? Is HE your priority? What was the first thing you reached for this morning? Bible or phone? We all are so guilty of these phones we have…….we need to do an intentional setting aside of them because they are very much stealing our time that we should be spending with GOD. But in spite of ourselves and our weakness to our phones, GOD in HIS infinite wisdom, sends HIS grace.
BUT GOD GIVES US GREATER GRACE!
Did we treasure HIS gift of salvation this morning? Thank HIM with whole heart? Did we encounter HIS grace upon grace for us?
Paul in his wisdom said this:
1 CORINTHIANS 6:12 “……..BUT I WILL NOT BE DOMINATED BY ANYTHING.”
We need to be very careful in this life that idols do not dominate us, because anything that dominates our time means that is the very “thing” we have placed before our GOD. Let us examine our best use of all our time……and choose to commit to GOD.
There is a simple word that can so easily keep us away from these idols that dominate us and it is the word: NO! We can say no to the pulls of this world because GOD gives us that strength to do so. If your desire is to place GOD first, then do so. But ask GOD with your whole heart, ask HIM to remove those things that keep you too busy and steal your precious time with HIM.
If we let our yes be yes and our no be no, we will then be better off. It is foolish and hopeless to put other things and people before GOD. As we walk through this life, everyone sooner or later reaches a crossroad and a choice. Who or what are you choosing today?
GOD is the eternal choice, the best choice. In the midst of all that we live, GOD and HIS grace is the most amazing thing we could ever encounter. We need only turn to HIS reach towards us, turn and turn again. Because HE is always there, waiting, and by our sides, even when we cannot know.
JAMES 4: 8 “DRAW NEAR TO GOD, AND HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO YOU.”
Draw near today…….but don’t ever stop! Read HIS word again and again, but don’t ever stop! Why? Because today like every other day: you are loved. Loved by a good and gracious GOD!
Your post leads me to confess that I am drawn to books. I start reading a book, and I tend to shut out whatever I can in order to finish it. I cannot, ever, shut out my devotions for a book (the Bible, after all, is the best Book ever!); but you draw out a good point in our daily choices. I know this weakness I have, and so I limit the number of books I pick up.

I AM A BOOK GIRL TOO!! I love them, always have. But I have learned to love as you do, the BIBLE and I now own several. They are a treasure to me, my favorite book. I keep a few right in front of me so I will reach for them instead of something else. Kind of the out of sight out of mind thing? I know GOD knows I need HIS constant reminder of HIM. Because I am human and I tend to drift…..ugh.
