SUNDAY REFLECTIONS

A little yes can step you in the right direction today, rather than an emphatic no.  We can say yes to GOD and yes to HIS word and yes to HIS commands.  Sometimes however, we let our flesh choose and that is surely when we run into trouble.

Oswald Chambers has said this:  always guard against self-chosen service for GOD.  The word that gets me here is the “self-chosen”.  Do I do that or do I allow GOD to lead me with what HE would have me do?

True obedience says “yes LORD” or “here I am LORD, send me.”  How often does our flesh take over and says, well:  yes I can do this, but not that?  What if we are called upon to do for the LORD outside of our comfort zones?  Isn’t that truly how we mature?

My obedience begins with a little yes, yes LORD.  It is a willingness to do for HIM, not myself.  It is a willingness to let HIS light shine before men, not my own.

A SMALL YES BEGINS THE PROCESS OF SERVICE AND DEVOTION.

But our yes should not have restrictions.  Let CHRIST’S example of obedience be our model:

PHILIPPIANS 2: 8  “………HE HUMBLED HIMSELF BY BECOMING OBEDIENT TO THE POINT OF DEATH – EVEN DEATH ON A CROSS.”

Often we desire to do great things but circumstances do not allow that to happen.  What we can do is let a small yes, empower GOD to do all the rest.  HE does great things even in the small and since we know HE is always working for the good, we can place our trust in HIS capable HANDS.  This is obedience and as we grow we learn to let go……..more.

Let your yes lead to prayer and then let GOD do the rest!  Let’s be HIS hands and feet in this dark world, but that begins with our yes and being open to HIS leading.  Honestly, I know in my heart I need to get out of the way……..all of the time!  Not with what I see, but what GOD sees!  HE knows better than I do what is needed and when.  But oh, so very often I get in the way even when I don’t desire to!  Don’t let this world tie up your hands, instead lay them right open for GOD to give you something to do!

GALATIANS 6: 7-8  “DON’T BE DECEIVED: GOD IS NOT MOCKED.  FOR WHATEVER A PERSON SOWS HE WILL ALSO REAP, BECAUSE THE ONE WHO SOWS TO HIS FLESH WILL REAP DESTRUCTION FROM THE FLESH, BUT THE ONE WHO SOWS TO THE SPIRIT WILL REAP ETERNAL LIFE FROM THE SPIRIT.”

And there it is……..GOD is not to be mocked.  Don’t say yes to HIM and then do whatever you do for HIM in your way.  Not by your own might, but by HIS might!  Sow in the spirit today, because a little yes, with GOD and the Spirit, goes a very long way!

ROMANS 5: 19  “……..SO ALSO THROUGH THE ONE MAN’S OBEDIENCE THE MANY WILL BE MADE RIGHTEOUS.”

  1. Wow. God is intertwining many thoughts in my head now, and yours mesh so perfectly.
I am hoping to get out a post this week about carrying our cross. The big picture of the post started while reading The Light and the Glory, and a quote from Thomas Hooker about that cross: we don’t make it, God does. There’s a lot of stress and tribulation when we start making our own trials, and don’t take up the cross God created for us.
If you don’t mind, I would like to include some of your thoughts in that post, and link to this post.
