OUR DISTRESS MADE BEAUTIFUL

In all my distress and dealing with a cancer diagnosis………GOD has shown me what beautiful is.

GOD MAKES BEAUTY OUT OF ASHES.

Our lives can turn to ashes in a split second can’t they?  Why do we walk so certain, only to be surprised when hard things happen to us?

JOSHUA 1: 9  “DO NOT BE FRIGHTENED, AND DO NOT BE DISMAYED.”

Hearing the word cancer quite shocked me.  I will never forget where I was standing when I was told “you have lobular carcinoma.”  The person on the other end of the phone I think was just a tech, because by then I had spoken to nurses and doctors over the phone and this person wasn’t one of them.  Anyway my response was: sooo what do I do now?

JOSHUA 1: 9 “……..FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD IS WITH YOU WHEREVER YOU GO.”

Charles Spurgeon says this:  “There is no greater mercy that I know of on earth than good health except it be sickness; and that has often been a greater mercy to me than health.”

None of us get through life without distress and none of us get through life without some type of physical sickness.  Even aging if you live a long life is a very difficult thing.

I get this now…….in the depths of sickness, you are powerless and so you reach and draw near to the GOD of all hope and comfort for you.  HE comforts when no one else will.  In my case, I had to submit my life to doctors and test results all totally out of my control.  So I put the control in GOD’S hands, knowing that HE is sovereign over all Creation.  But my distress in all of this was made beautiful because through it all I lived one simple truth:

WITH GOD YOU ARE NEVER ALONE!

Drawing near to GOD, embracing HIM fully with all heart, soul and mind in the midst of sickness is truly a beautiful thing. I was able to draw near and slept every night because I went to sleep with my focus on the Problem Solver rather than the problem……..HE took away my distress each night because I needed to sleep after 3 surgeries to heal!

PSALM 4: 8  “IN PEACE I WILL BOTH LIE DOWN AND SLEEP FOR YOU ALONE, O LORD, MAKE ME DWELL IN SAFETY.”

GOD alone is the comforter of all things, even cancer.  HE makes beautiful all your tears and worry when you yourself have nothing else to give.  HE walks alongside, lifting you up, showing you that if no one else notices, you are beautiful to HIM.  And since GOD is love, HE cares for us with a tender hand, giving compassion and grace when everyone around us might fail us, HE comes through!  HE shows us over and over that HE alone can be counted upon and trusted.

Distress for many reasons……..is made beautiful learning that only GOD is the steadfast, caring FATHER we all want and need who loves us unconditionally.

1 JOHN 4: 10  “IN THIS IS LOVE, NOT THAT WE HAVE LOVED GOD BUT THAT HE LOVED US AND SENT HIS SON TO BE THE PROPITIATION FOR OUR SINS.”

GOD sent HIS SON JESUS when the world needed HIM the most!  And we need HIM right now in our current state of distress or disease.  We need HIM!

AND NEEDING HIM IS TRULY BEAUTIFUL!

Embrace the LORD GOD, the GOD who makes beauty out of our ashes…….put all your worries aside and draw near.  Let HIM comfort you like none other, because HE makes everything beautiful in it’s time.

PSALM 96: 6  “SPLENDOR AND MAJESTY ARE BEFORE HIM; STRENGTH AND BEAUTY ARE IN HIS SANCTUARY.”

  1. Bless you, Beautiful Maxine.
“HE shows us over and over that HE alone can be counted upon and trusted.” — Sometimes God alone is our comforter. Sometimes He uses His people to come alongside and comfort us. However He works, through His presence or Word, or people or events, He will bring us what we need; blessed is the one who has eyes to see Him and ears to hear Him. Bless you.
