WHAT ARE YOU ALL ABOUT?

I think it is a fair question……..what are you all about?  I would hope that those who follow CHRIST would answer like this:

I’M A SINNER IN NEED OF A SAVIOR.

JESUS said in Matthew 9:13:  “For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”   You see, JESUS knows us, HE knows we are all about ourselves too.  And so does the enemy and satan uses our weaknesses against us whenever he can.

We live in the flesh and a fleshy world.  But when we have been born of the SPIRIT, we realize there is a constant battle taking place within ourselves, between our flesh and Spirit…….

ROMANS 8: 9  “YOU, HOWEVER, ARE NOT IN THE FLESH BUT IN THE SPIRIT, IF IN FACT THE SPIRIT OF GOD DWELLS IN YOU.”

So are you currently about that battle?  You know the one where Paul says this…….

ROMANS 7: 20  “NOW IF I DO WHAT I DO NOT WANT, IT IS NO LONGER I WHO DO IT, BUT SIN THAT DWELLS WITHIN ME.”

I wonder sometimes, how we manage to spend an hour in the Bible and then get in the car and cuss out the first person who cuts us off!  It is the everyday sin problem and it is because of our weakness.

Oh how good our GOD is to show us this weakness of flesh that we have!  HE teaches us in HIS omnipotent way that we are weak without HIM and in need of HIM more than we know because of who we are…….ungrateful, selfish, self-centered beings.  But, you say, the world is like this so how are we as Christians any different?

OUR EYES HAVE BEEN OPENED AND OUR HEARTS HAVE BEEN CONVICTED.

MATTHEW 9:30  “THEN THEIR EYES WERE OPENED AND THEY COULD SEE.”

The two blind men in Matthew 9 asked for healing and mercy and JESUS said: “do you believe that I can do this?  And the two blind men responded: “yes LORD.”

Yes LORD, we are weak, and yes LORD we need a SAVIOR and yes LORD, please save us from ourselves! And yes LORD, we do believe……help our unbelief!

ARE WE ABOUT OURSELVES OR ABOUT THE ONE WHO SAVED US?

Our pride gets in the way daily…….we want to have our way and not GOD’S way.  We should strive for less of ourselves and dying to self over and over.  HIS will should be over our will.  And so it goes as we mature in our faith.  We should love this world less, and JESUS and HIS promises more!

1 JOHN 2: 16  “FOR ALL THAT IS IN THE WORLD – THE DESIRES OF THE FLESH AND THE DESIRES OF THE EYES AND PRIDE OF LIFE – IS NOT FROM THE FATHER BUT IS FROM THE WORLD.”

The LORD sees our steps and our missteps…….we are all about those too.  But those steps of being humbled by the LORD, build upon one another, always leading towards home, always leading up on high, one after another, every day.  The LORD grants us grace and mercy in all our weaknesses, because we are all about those too.  It is a daily stepping…….always out in faith.

So if you haven’t realized yet what you are all about…….reflect upon this.  Take the time to examine where you are right now.  Because you are either all about yourself, or you are all about JESUS CHRIST!

JAMES 4: 8  “COME CLOSE TO GOD, AND GOD WILL COME CLOSE TO YOU. WASH YOUR HANDS, YOU SINNERS; PURIFY YOUR HEARTS, FOR YOUR LOYALTY IS DIVIDED BETWEEN GOD AND THE WORLD.”

  1. God had it so right on when He wrote through Paul in Romans 7.15, 19, 20: For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 19For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
If Paul himself had these twirling tuggings and temptations, we must know that it is in all flesh.
Thanks be to God, Who straightens us out! We can set our minds on things above, not on earthly things (Col 3.2) by His grace.

    1. I do so much relate to that verse. Especially when you sin and right in the middle of it you KNOW you are sinning and cannot stop yourself! Oh what a tug of war between Spirit and flesh!
