THERE WAS A DELAY

If you ponder this, after JESUS was crucified there was a delay of one day before HE rose to glory.

LUKE 18: 33  “AND AFTER FLOGGING HIM THEY WILL KILL HIM, AND ON THE THIRD DAY HE WILL RISE.”

Have you ever wondered why the delay?  Why didn’t JESUS rise up the very next day?  Because I am sure that HE could, but instead there was an in-between day.  There was a full 24 hours of which the disciples and all the rest of HIS followers must have been heartbroken, confused and just left wondering…….wondering how this could have happened?  Their precious SAVIOR had been beaten and crucified by angry men seeking revenge on an innocent man.

I have always tried to place myself on that Saturday.  I have tried to walk in the disciple’s shoes and I have imagined myself on the ROAD TO EMMAUS.  Would I have remembered HIS words when HE said to remember HIM with the blood and the cup?  Would I have wondered what HE meant when HE said the following words…….

JOHN 11: 25  “I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE.”

Would I have been so very confused and in no way understanding what resurrection meant?  That Saturday must have been a long 24 hours for those who loved JESUS!

AND THEN SUNDAY COMES…….and sweet Mary finds the tomb empty!  She is worried as to where they had taken her LORD!  And then JESUS speaks to her.  HE call her by name and then she knows!  HE appears to HER alone and she must have been stunned!  HE appears to her in all of HIS glory.

THE DELAY WAS ALL FOR HIS GLORY!

LUKE 20: 18  “MARY MAGDALENE WENT AND ANNOUNCED TO THE DISCIPLES, “I HAVE SEEN THE LORD!  AND SHE TOLD THEM WHAT HE HAD SAID TO HER.”

Just imagine how all their sorrow was turned into unspeakable joy!  JESUS did what HE said!  It was all true and the timing was perfect.  And those who had doubts, doubted no more, for HE HAD RISEN!

The delay of that one day was needed in history.  It was needed to change sorrow into praise and worship and glory.  It was needed so we would remember and never forget and praise HIM with hands raised high.

A DELAY OF ONE DAY IMPACTED ALL OF HISTORY…….ALL FOR CHRIST’S GLORY!

And that is why JESUS died for us…….for our sins and then……HE rose on the third day.  This gospel is truly glorious news.  It is the GOOD NEWS, too good to ignore, all because of with GOD all things are possible and all delays in GOD’S economy are for a perfect reason.

May we learn to rest in GOD’S delay…….HE does this often and we can read about it over and over in the Scriptures.  HIS delay is for our glory too.  Any of HIS delay in our lives is for a reason, perfectly timed.  If GOD delayed JESUS’S resurrection, rest in the realization that any delay in your life is a good thing.  Grab onto those delays and know that HE is working…….all working for HIS glory and for HIS good purpose.  And all working for your good too!

ROMANS 8: 28  “AND WE KNOW THAT IN ALL THINGS GOD WORKS FOR THE GOOD OF THOSE WHO LOVE HIM, WHO HAVE BEEN CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE.”

  1. Amen. All timing is up to God, and He is perfect.
I think of how things were arranged: Jesus died as our sacrificial lamb; He died just as the lamb was slain on the altar at the temple. The next day was the Sabbath, the day of rest. I often think of what Hebrews says about rest, and how important it is (Hebrews 4.1-13).
God always has a reason, a purpose, for His timing. I love the direction of your post, how we must always wait on the Lord (Psalms 27.14).
