On one of my walks recently, I passed by a park just as a little boy fell down hard on his knees. He began to cry and mom who was sitting near, jumped up to console him as only moms do.
Life can be like this because falling down is hard……and when we fall, we hurt. Failing at a job, or with family members or friends comes with a cost. And what and who we turn to makes a difference in our getting back up again, so that we can learn and move on and move forward. Moving forward takes courage, a courage that only GOD can give.
PROVERBS 24: 16 “FOR A RIGHTEOUS MAN MAY FALL SEVEN TIMES AND RISE AGAIN, BUT THE WICKED SHALL FALL BY CALAMITY.”
How often have we looked back, only to see that we failed miserably at something or failed someone. And more often than not, we were responsible for that failure doing what we did in the flesh rather then walking by the Spirit. WE all are guilty of this and often we hurt ourselves even more.
LEARNING FROM OUR FAILURES MATTERS.
As a coach for figure skaters for over 30 years, I watched my students fall and fall again and again, while learning a difficult jump. The ones who persisted and learned the correct technique were the ones who finally mastered the jump. Perseverance and steadfastness and keeping their eyes on the goal accomplished what their love of the sport was. They trained and they learned and they mastered.
When we sit at the feet of JESUS we are in the presence of the MASTER. We are the students in the classroom of life. We are blessed to be in HIS classroom! JESUS in HIS wonderful wisdom, teaches us and refines us, loves us and directs us. And only through HIM and in HIM do we have our being. Our getting up from a fall, depends upon HIM. It’s not about us, because we don’t have the ability in our own strength to truly recover from a hard fall.
REPEATED FAILURES ARE REPEATED LESSONS WE NEED TO LEARN.
Do you see your trials and tribulations as lessons GOD wants you to learn? Maybe the lesson is in patience or humility. But whatever it is, know that GOD won’t bring you to the lesson, unless HIS plan is to bring you through it! So don’t despair or give up when you fall down, HE will lend you HIS hand and reach down to pick you back up. Like a parent HE will comfort and point you in the right direction. And HIS compassion in all of this is tender and merciful.
PSALM 37: 24 “THOUGH HE FALLS, HE WILL NOT BE OVERWHELMED, BECAUSE THE LORD SUPPORTS HIM WITH HIS HAND.”
Falling is hard, but GOD knows us, knows us to our core. And HE will always pick us back up…….trust this promise…….
ISAIAH 41: 10 “DO NOT FEAR, FOR I AM WITH YOU; DO NOT BE AFRAID, FOR I AM YOUR GOD. I WILL STRENGTHEN YOU; I WILL HELP YOU; I WILL HOLD ON TO YOU WITH MY RIGHTEOUS RIGHT HAND.”
May the LORD give you strength today to get back up, especially if you have fallen and failed recently. Because of HIS incredible well of grace and mercy, we can return to it over and over. HIS love for you will never fail……rest in HIS capable hands today.
PSALM 41: 13 “FOR I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD, WHO HOLDS YOUR RIGHT HAND.”
