FOR THE SAKE OF LOVE

We have turned the pages of the calendar and it is February.  Everyone remembers those they love on February 14th.  We remember those we have lost and those very close to us.  Love seems to be all around…….but lately you have to wonder.  You wonder how brutally hurtful and awful man is to his fellow man right now.  How did we get here??

We are maligning others for not doing what we want them to do…….who made any of us the moral police?  Honestly, I think that is left up to GOD.  HE is the ultimate authority on everything of this world.  And GOD in HIS infinite wisdom sent HIS ONE and only SON to die for all of our sins here.  If you think on it, there are way too many to even count!

“sin is for one man to walk brutally over the life of another and to be quite oblivious of the wounds he has left behind.” Shusaku Endo from “Silence: A Novel”

I tend to think this is where we are right now in society……people are brutal to one another.  How much more does this grieve GOD’S heart?  And it should grieve all of our hearts too.  JESUS left us with the Great Commission that we are to follow every day of our lives…….

MARK 12: 1 29-31 “JESUS ANSWERED, THE MOST IMPORTANT IS LISTEN O ISRAEL!  THE LORD OUR GOD, THE LORD IS ONE. LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH. THE SECOND IS, LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.  THERE IS NO OTHER COMMAND GREATER THAN THESE.”

Loving the LORD, fills our own hearts with love.  Why?  Because only HE can take your one broken heart tenderly in HIS hands and remake it.  Our vulnerable hearts do break open many times during a lifetime.  Sometimes it is expected, other times it comes out of nowhere and it crushes.  Most of humanity is walking around right now……crushed.  The hate and rhetoric in our society is just that…..crushing.

As Christians we are to be HIS light, HIS hands and feet, HIS compassion.  It is up to us to love the unlovable.  And because we know the TRUTH we have the freedom to love without expecting anything in return.

1 JOHN 4: 7  “DEAR FRIENDS, LET US LOVE ONE ANOTHER, BECAUSE LOVE IS FROM GOD, AND EVERYONE WHO LOVES HAS BEEN BORN OF GOD AND KNOWS GOD.”

Our GOD loves HIS church with a faithful and everlasting love.  We are HIS hands and feet while we are here……to love……because HE first loved us and gave HIS life for our sins.  Let’s remember HIM and what HE sacrificially did for mankind.  How much more should we sacrificially love those around us?

HEBREWS 13: 15-16 “THEREFORE, THROUGH HIM LET US CONTINUALLY OFFER UP TO GOD A SACRIFICE OF PRAISE, THAT IS, THE FRUIT OF LIPS THAT CONFESS HIS NAME.  DON’T NEGLECT TO DO WHAT IS GOOD AND TO SHARE, FOR GOD IS PLEASED WITH SUCH SACRIFICES.”

Our sacrifice is required of us, knowing what we do know of HIS sacrifice for us!  Our time, our talents, our money and of course our love, should all be sacrificed in the name of JESUS CHRIST!  And let’s remember……HE first loved us with a love greater than anything we will ever know here on this earth.  HIS love for us is perfect and eternal and will always be with us for this life and the life to come.

MAKE A POINT TO LOVE ON SOMEONE THIS MONTH WHO TRULY NEEDS YOUR SACRIFICIAL LOVE.  TOUCH A LIFE IN THE NAME OF JESUS.

  1. You and Brenda are on the same topic – God is speaking!
Interesting sentence: “And because we know the TRUTH we have the freedom to love without expecting anything in return.” Yes, we do have the freedom to love without expecting anything in return. That’s God. That’s God in us. May I always step aside, put the flesh to death, and let God love through me, without expectation. Who knows what kinds of miracles God would work???

    1. Yes so well said as always Kathy! Yes loving and giving it away with nothing in return is quite hard. Sometimes in the flesh we think gee, I give and give and get nothing in return! May our heart then, turn to GOD and see how much HE has given us!! HIS grace is sufficient for us.
