BE REFRESHED

I was blessed back in the 70’s to be able to stand and view Niagara Falls.  There is the American side and the Canadian side……both beautiful in their own right, both powerful and refreshing to look at.  Standing close, I felt the fine mist washing over me and like those around me, I was in awe of the Fall’s majesty.  Aren’t we all drawn to water?  We need water to survive, but oh how we love to watch and visit the ocean or to seek out a hidden waterfall in the mountains.  We adore the sound of rushing water or a babbling brook.  We are drawn to water for it’s peace and purity.

Let this season be a time of refreshing for you. We all need refreshing and we all long for refreshing!  I feel my spirit sucked dry by the ugliness of our world.  And how many are there around me that live in that ugly darkness……a place of no refreshment?

At the beginning of every day, each of us can take a long refreshing drink from the WORD that is capable of saturating our dry and thirsty souls.

JOHN 4: 14-15  “BUT WHOEVER DRINKS FROM THE WATER THAT I WILL GIVE HIM WILL NEVER GET THIRSTY AGAIN.  IN FACT, THE WATER I WILL GIVE HIM WILL BECOME A WELL OF WATER SPRINGING UP IN HIM FOR ETERNAL LIFE.”

Our JESUS provides all the refreshment we need.  HIS grace and mercy is the only refreshment we will find and HIS refreshing us never ends or runs dry.  If the water given us produces a well springing up within, then let us become refreshment for those around us who need it.

I recently in self-examination asked myself: do I refresh others?  Do I give them the grace and hope they need?  I love GOD’S timing, always perfect and often so profound.  The day after I asked myself that question I received a sweet card from a Christian sister that said this:  “I thank GOD for the countless ways your friendship has refreshed my spirit and renewed a song in my heart.”  The scripture that came with it was this:

PROVERBS 27: 9 “A SWEET FRIENDSHIP REFRESHES THE SOUL.” The Message

Our refreshment from the LORD should spill over into others around us…….so are we refreshing our friends and family?  It has been said that the world will pull you to your knees.  GOOD!  Because when we are drawn to our knees, we are drawn to HIS well of refreshment we need to persevere in this life.

MATTHEW 10: 42  “AND WHOEVER GIVES ONE OF THESE LITTLE ONES EVEN A CUP OF COLD WATER BECAUSE HE IS A DISCIPLE, TRULY, I SAY TO YOU, HE WILL BY NO MEANS LOSE HIS REWARD.”

Our GOD refreshes us with life-saving water.  This refreshing causes spiritual transformation within, so that we may in turn be a refreshment for others.  Giving a cup of cold water…….that may refresh someone who is in a dry desert.  But we need to give first.  May it be that we give of our time, our talents or our treasures.  But refreshment must be given and then it will be received.

REVELATION 21: 6  “I WILL GIVE THE FOUNTAIN OF THE WATER OF LIFE FREELY TO HIM WHO THIRSTS.”

The LORD gives freely HIS fountain of mercy and eternal life, so let us give freely HIS mercy and love that HE so freely give us!  Let us refresh those around us and leave them better than when we found them.  Only through JESUS can this refreshing occur.  HIS love and mercy is an oasis of water to be drawn to…….let’s show others this oasis, testify to it and share it.  HIS water is life giving!

REVELATION 22: 17  “AND WHOEVER DESIRES, LET HIM TAKE THE WATER OF LIFE FREELY.”

  1. YES! You do refresh others. The grace and hope of Jesus flows from you to others. I have often been the recipient, and I appreciate how you allow God to work in and through you.
    Thank you for this challenge.

  2. Times of refreshing, to drink from His love, and rest within His heart! Wonderful, you had a opportunity to visit the falls. It’s my wife’s favourite place to visit, we’ve probably been there 20-30 times, over the last 30 years. We live about an hour away, on the Canadian side. Blessings to you!

    1. Oh how wonderful for you!! I was so in awe of them, but that is how GOD’S creation is. So are you Canadian? We have a Canadian worship leader at Church named Joshua……he is so so wonderful!! But he says “a?” all the time. I knew right away that he was from Canada!!
