SERVING FROM WEAKNESS

One of our true callings besides glorifying GOD is to serve others.  There are many ways to do this, some easy and some hard.  Some require physical strength and others require a simple listening ear.  There are as many different ways to serve our fellow man as there are people.  But if we serve from selfishness, or wanting recognition for serving, then we are not on the right track.

Our own self-reliance verses reliance on GOD are two very different things.  When we are weak and when we think we cannot do what we should do, our humble reliance upon HIM is a reality that we do need HIM as a Savior and Guide.

MATTHEW 8:17  “…….SO THAT WHAT WAS SPOKEN THROUGH THE PROPHET ISAIAH MIGHT BE FULFILLED:  HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR WEAKNESSES AND CARRIED OUR DISEASES.”

There are two wonderful words here:  took and carried.  Our weaknesses are HIS STRENGTH for us.  In our serving, HE carries us through when we think we are not enough.  Whatever our serving looks like, our JESUS gives us the strength and courage when we need it.  And how often do we feel unqualified?  We can rely on HIM over ourselves to take what we are doing, and make it a blessing for someone who needs it.  Let us be available to do what is needed, even if we feel insecure about what we were asked to do. We are free to be HIS hands and feet for anyone who needs that light and love in their world.  I agree with what Charles Stanley says:

“in the kingdom of GOD, Christ-followers are set free from a life of selfishness and self-sufficiency so they can truly love and serve others.”

Christ-followers have a shared desire to serve not only one another, but the world around them.  We serve our neighbors, our co-workers, our community and even our family members.  The serving is endless.  And we have JESUS and HIS words to us as our example to follow…..

MATTHEW 10: 45 “FOR EVEN THE SON OF MAN DID NOT COME TO BE SERVED, BUT TO SERVE, AND TO GIVE HIS LIFE AS A RANSOM FOR MANY.”

Jesus came to serve HIS fellow man and yet HE is the KING of the JEWS! How much more should we be willing to go and serve others!

ISAIAH 6: 8  “AND I HEARD THE VOICE OF THE LORD SAYING, “WHOM SHALL I SEND, AND WHO WILL GO FOR US?”  THEN I SAID, “HERE I AM! SEND ME.”

Ahh…..so that is all we need to do, to just say, here I am…… send me.  I will go where others won’t!  And isn’t the unknown what holds us back?  We don’t know how someone will respond to our serving them, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do what GOD wants.  We might not see an immediate result or response, but we still need to go and serve for HIM!

Our weaknesses are exposed by HIS light……so go and stand in HIS strength!  Go have that hard conversation, go and forgive someone who doesn’t deserve it, go make that phone call, go to someone’s door and see if they need any kind of help.  Just go and watch how GOD will give you the words you need when you don’t know what to say.  HE knows our weaknesses and HE give us the spiritual strength we need.  Oh, how HE will give you an idea, when you don’t have one……it’s ok to feel weak, inadequate and unqualified, but be willing to be sent and let GOD do the rest!

HE IS ALL THE STRENGTH WE WILL EVER NEED!

In our serving from weakness there is blessing, there is freedom in CHRIST and there is the maturity of our faith being refined by HIM.  So go my friends and be HIS hands and feet today in a world that so desperately needs HIS light!

HEBREWS 4: 15  “FOR WE DO NOT HAVE A HIGH PRIEST WHO IS UNABLE TO SYMPATHIZE WITH OUR WEAKNESSES, BUT ONE WHO HAS BEEN TEMPTED IN EVERY WAY AS WE ARE, YET WITHOUT SIN.”

  1. SUCH a necessary message, Maxine!
“We can rely on HIM over ourselves to take what we are doing, and make it a blessing for someone who needs it.” What a blessed perspective – to see Jesus as leading us to serve, then taking that offering to bless the needy person; and everyone gets the blessing all around!
And this: “We don’t know how someone will respond to our serving them, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do what GOD wants. We might not see an immediate result or response, but we still need to go and serve for HIM!” We NEVER see the whole picture. So many times I hear people say, “I can’t do that – s/he’ll think thus and such.” We can’t know how anyone will respond or react or feel about anything we do or say. Only God can. And if God calls us to action, then to action we must go.
So therefore the rest of what you said: “so go and stand in HIS strength! Oh, how HE will give you an idea, when you don’t have one……it’s ok to feel weak, inadequate and unqualified, but be willing to be sent and let GOD do the rest!”

    1. Thanks Kathy……I have always served with the response “where do you need me” and often I feel so inadequate, but GOD always comes through…….isn’t it much about growing in our faith and reliance on HIM?? And it’s ok to say hey, don’t know what I am doing…..but I am willing to GO and let GOD do the rest! Hugs my friend!
