SCRIBBLES TO GOD

I have never been very good at keeping a journal.  I do love to buy a pretty one and I begin in it and many times there are pages left blank because I have started in another new journal.  I do have several notebooks that I have written in.  There are blog posts recorded there, scriptures, thoughts and prayers.  Usually they aren’t dated, some are.  So my notebooks aren’t in any kind of order…….but they all reflect my heart towards GOD and they all tell a story.

SCRIBBLES TO GOD ARE BETTER THAN NOTHING AT ALL.

Moses wrote the law on tablets…….

EXODUS 24: 4  “AND MOSES WROTE DOWN ALL THE WORDS OF THE LORD.”

Since I love to write, I relate to Moses.  Often I get an idea and if I don’t write it down, usually in a notebook, then it is gone from my memory.  Writing helps us remember……..GOD wants us to remember HIM and HIS word.

In the present age of cell phones, it makes me sad that writing is a lost art.  No one writes a thank you card anymore, we just send a text with a cute emoji.  But I refuse to let it all go and so I continue to buy new notebooks and make my scribbles to the LORD.  Intentionally writing to the LORD brings me delight in HIM.

JEREMIAH 31: 33  “FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AFTER THOSE DAYS, DECLARES THE LORD:  I WILL PUT MY LAW WITHIN THEM, AND I WILL WRITE IT ON THEIR HEARTS.”

I think writing words on a page are important to our GOD.  Begin today, and write them, write them, write them.  Your notebook can be as versatile as you are.  Your thoughts, prayers, scriptures and short phrases ……..all count for something and GOD sees them as your hand writes.  Writing to GOD takes our time, our thoughts, our praises, our pain and our worship.  Time spent on a page to the LORD is never a waste of time.  It is thinking vertical, remembering who HE is, the great GOD of the universe!

PROVERBS 4: 4  “LET YOUR HEART HOLD FAST MY WORDS; KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS, AND LIVE.”

There is life in HIS words…….they are life giving and GOD wants us to embrace HIS words in many different ways.  Writing them, writing prayers, writing short phrases, any of it is a roadmap, a journey you are on towards GOD…….taking thoughts and feelings captive for CHRIST our LORD.

I have been known to write a Psalm to the LORD……I challenge you on this one friends.  I once wrote a Psalm after driving west towards the beautiful Rockies and I witnessed HIS glorious beauty before my eyes.

All of my notebooks, finished or not show GOD’S faithfulness to me…….they are an account of HIS goodness and grace.  When I reread them I see what GOD did for me in the past and how HIS grace sustained me in each writing.

PROVERBS 7: 3  “…….WRITE THEM ON THE TABLET OF YOUR HEART.”

The more I write my scribbles to GOD, the more HIS word is written on my heart.  All of GOD’S words are there for us, to teach us and for us to honor and praise in our private journals.  So if you haven’t started one, I encourage you to do so this fall and make it your own special written worship of the LORD.  HE will spend time with you there and grow your faith along the way as you adore HIM in your many words.

JOHN 20: 31  “BUT THESE ARE WRITTEN SO THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE THAT JESUS IS THE MESSIAH, THE SON OF GOD, AND THAT BY BELIEVING YOU MAY HAVE LIFE IN HIS NAME.”

  1. my dear Maxine, I have been following you for sometime now; I really enjoy your work. I too write a lot about my walk with my Savior; I have just recently started a blog (one post so far). I would like to know if it would be okay to quote you as I write. Specifically, I’m talking about todays post…”Scribbles to God” and the paragraph that begins…”I think writing words on a page…” This fits so much the reason why I write. I’ve written several songs myself. This is going too long so I will stop but pleas let me know if the quote is ok. God bless my sister.

  2. Oh, my, YES! The written word – whether we are the ones writing it or reading it – is powerful. We have the joy of sharing writings one with another; but there is a special blessing, I think, in reading our own words, and remembering how good was God’s grace.

  3. I agree with you. I love to write down my thoughts and prayers in a notebook. Sometimes I write them in my phone so that I can easily transfer them to my blog. Thank you for this encouraging post.

    1. I do that too with my phone! Especially if I am out and about and just know that I won’t remember my thought. I need to keep another notebook in my car too. Love to know you are right there with me…….writing down so many thoughts of the LORD! Blessings dear Beverley!
