CHARLES SPURGEON died in 1892. Sixty thousand people attended his funeral. He was and is known as the Prince of Preachers. His many sermons and books are in print today and continue to inform and influence many generations of preachers. His ministry is still impacting believers after all these years! I purchased a Charles Spurgeon study bible last year and I am impressed with all of Spurgeon’s study notes. There are actual pages written in his own handwriting and lots of outlines to make them clear to the reader.
One morning recently I came across some of his notes that gave a list of three simple things Christians can expect as they walk their Christian lives. I love simple things that are easy to remember and these 3 things made so much sense to me that I wanted to share them here. As we learn them, let’s be intentional in reminding ourselves daily of them……..
FIRST: WE WILL HAVE TRIBULATION AS LONG AS WE ARE IN THE WORLD.
Trials are a never ending condition aren’t they? Seems like you get done with one problem and another one is right around the corner. Hardships never seem to stop. Do we know anyone who doesn’t have problems today? Why is that? The LORD teaches us and draws us closer through these trials and it is how we respond to them that matters. Draw near to the LORD right now, in this moment. HE will speak to you…….
JAMES 1: 2 “CONSIDER IT A GREAT JOY, MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHENEVER YOU EXPERIENCE VARIOUS TRIALS.”
Only JESUS is our answer to these trials, HE is our only HOPE, our salvation and our eternal rest.
Our salvation and faith are particularly obnoxious to satan, so remember that he will try to take hold of your trials and turn them into something they are not. By grace we have been saved and by grace we believe. So believe in HIS word and not what the world tells you. Trials and HIS grace upon us in those trials, grow us to be mature in our faith. Without tribulation, we would remain as babies in our faith walks. May we have HIS strength to endure and persevere all trials when they come.
SECOND: WE MAY CONSTANTLY EXPECT A DISPLAY OF GOD’S DELIVERING GRACE.
We are saved by grace, not by ourselves but by GOD who chose us and revealed HIMSELF to us. Not one of us can take credit for this.
EPHESIANS 2: 8-9 “FOR YOU ARE SAVED BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH, AND THIS IS NOT FROM YOURSELVES; IT IS GOD’S GIFT – NOT FROM WORKS SO THAT NO ONE CAN BOAST.”
It’s all grace loved ones! All grace every single day and in every way of our lives. All who believe are walking examples of HIS unlimited grace. And HIS grace is sufficient for you and for me. HIS delivering grace is endless and immeasurable, eternal and oh so wonderful! The gospel of JESUS CHRIST is all grace……
JOHN 1: 17 “…….FOR THE LAW WAS GIVEN THROUGH MOSES; GRACE AND TRUTH CAME THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.”
It’s all grace that JESUS died on the Cross while we were still sinners!
THIRD: OUR WHOLE LIFE SHOULD BE FILLED WITH PRAISE OF GOD OUR DELIVERER
There is nothing these days that fills my heart more than praising GOD. It’s even more amazing to praise HIM in a sanctuary with other believers. HE is our wonderful Savior, our Deliverer and Eternal GOD!
PSALM 150: 6 “LET EVERYTHING THAT BREATHES PRAISE THE LORD.”
PSALM 34: 1 “I WILL BLESS THE LORD AT ALL TIMES; HIS PRAISE WILL ALWAYS BE ON MY LIPS.”
Let’s remember and be mindful of these three simple things. If you put them together they even make a meaningful equation:
TRIALS = GRACE = PRAISE
Three simple words to live by today and every day. These 3 simple words give greater grace to the heart and glorious praise to GOD the Father. Let’s remember them always.
TITUS 2: 11 – 12 “FOR THE GRACE OF GOD HAS APPEARED, BRINGING SALVATION FOR ALL PEOPLE, INSTRUCTING US TO DENY GODLESSNESS AND WORLDLY LUSTS AND TO LIVE IN A SENSIBLE, RIGHTEOUS, AND GODLY WAY IN THE PRESENT AGE.”
