My favorite place to sit has always been on a bench. If I see one, I want to sit there and see the view and watch the world go by. Benches are placed in strategic areas usually because there is something beautiful to observe. Time seems to stop for me sitting on a bench…….but we all know time never stops. Everyone thinks they have all the time in the world left, knowing what tomorrow will bring. But really we don’t.
YOUR TOMORROW IS IN GOD’S HANDS.
We should examine our use of time and if we are taking it for granted. It’s easy to do when you are young. Time seems to pass by so slowly. But when you have lived a few decades you find time passes by more quickly. I remember one of the last times my husband and I visited my father in Jacksonville, Florida. He said something to me that I have never forgotten. He looked at me and said: how did I get here? I know he meant his age, he was 83. Was he really looking back on his life and seeing that the time passed so quickly?
One day each of us will say, how did I get here? Will we look back on a life well lived?
ECCLESIASTES 2: 11 “YET WHEN I SURVEYED ALL THAT MY HANDS HAD DONE AND WHAT I HAD TOILED TO ACHIEVE, EVERYTHING WAS MEANINGLESS, A CHASING AFTER THE WIND; NOTHING WAS GAINED UNDER THE SUN.”
Solomon’s great wisdom, had him questioning the true meaning of life and he realized that pursuing the pleasures the world had to offer left one empty. The only pursuit worth living for was a relationship with the eternal GOD. Nothing on earth satisfies the longing of our hearts. Nothing and no one satisfies like our GOD does.
With life moving fast we still put off Church………we can go next week. We put off GOD…….I can pray tomorrow. We put off reading our Bibles or studying the word……I will learn tomorrow.
YOUR TIME FOR GOD NEEDS TO START RIGHT NOW.
ECCLESIASTES 1: 3 “WHAT DO PEOPLE GAIN FROM ALL THEIR LABORS AT WHICH THEY TOIL UNDER THE SUN?”
Things and life can and will change on a dime, in the blink of an eye. We are not guaranteed tomorrow. So why do we live like we are? Solomon also concluded this:
ECCLESIASTES 9: 1 “SO I REFLECTED ON ALL THIS AND CONCLUDED THAT THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WISE AND WHAT THEY DO ARE IN GOD’S HANDS, BUT NO ONE KNOWS IF LOVE OR HATE AWAITS THEM.”
What we do and how and when are in GOD’S hands…….our times are in HIS hands. We may have plans for now and our futures, but GOD already has our eternity written in HIS book.
We all are but a breath in the light of eternity. There are many roads to travel and ones we have put behind us but in time…….
ONLY ONE ROAD LEADS TO GOD.
MATTHEW 7: 14 “HOW NARROW IS THE GATE AND DIFFICULT THE ROAD THAT LEADS TO LIFE, AND FEW FIND IT.”
So the truth in all of this is that no matter what, we cannot control time, or our plans or tomorrow and what it brings. The road that leads to HIS truth is the only one that makes sense out of time passing by. Letting go and submitting to GOD, following HIM and what HIS word says will give us peace with our days and wisdom to live life well, while we have life today. Live out each day the best you can, be thankful to GOD that HE gave you today……..it is HIS gift to you. See GOD in the details and allow HIM to guide you in all your ways. We are not promised tomorrow, but we can commit to live out each day to the fullest for the LORD!
PSALM 90: 12 “TEACH US TO REALIZE THE BREVITY OF LIFE, SO THAT WE MAY GROW IN WISDOM.”
MAY YOU LIVE TODAY TO THE FULLEST!
