TOUGH ENOUGH

How can we be tough enough when we tend to get everything wrong?  Ever felt this way?  We have all had those days……days where everything goes wrong, and we beg for a do over.  Aren’t we blessed that HIS mercies are new every morning?

So, we work hard, but we don’t get hardened.  We work through the hard stuff, but we don’t let our hearts get tough.  All of us are ultimately working out our salvation because it is in us to work it out. Paul told the Church in his letter to the Philippians…….

PHILIPPIANS 2:  12-13  “……..WORK OUT YOUR OWN SALVATION WITH FEAR AND TREMBLING, FOR IT IS GOD WHO WORKS IN YOU, BOTH TO WILL AND TO WORK FOR HIS GOOD PLEASURE.”

But let’s understand that we don’t work for our salvation, no, because JESUS paid the penalty for us.  That debt was taken care of long ago!  GOD is already working in us and through us for HIS glory.  And that is why……..

JESUS CHOSE THE NAILS FOR US.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, JESUS prayed to the FATHER that if it was HIS will, to remove the cup from HIM.  But the FATHER did not remove what was coming, and JESUS, after praying, remained steadfast in HIS FATHER’S commands and said this:

MARK 14: 41-42  “THE TIME HAS COME.  SEE, THE SON OF MAN IS BETRAYED INTO THE HANDS OF SINNERS. GET UP, LET’S GO.  SEE MY BETRAYER IS NEAR.”

JESUS did the hard work for us by going willingly to the Cross.  Penalty paid, a gift of grace for us from JESUS.  Only the perfect LAMB could satisfy the debt we owe GOD.

A good many of us think we need to be tough enough to manage life, but be careful there, because you may be working out your own salvation without JESUS!  Are you thinking your works get you to Heaven?

All our studies, small groups, serving at Church, all our doing, doesn’t mean a thing if we are doing them to check off a box or to impress someone.

EPHESIANS 6: 14  “BUT FAR BE IT FROM ME TO BOAST EXCEPT IN THE CROSS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.”

Are we trying to impress those around us by showing them that we are tough enough to get through anything?  Or are we willing to let others see our vulnerable side which can speak volumes.  We can be vulnerable with one another and stand with one another helping each other to remain steadfast in CHRIST.  That is the kind of tough we all need.

BECAUSE CHRIST IS ENOUGH FOR EVERYONE IN EVERYTHING, WE DON’T HAVE TO BE TOUGH ENOUGH.  WE JUST NEED TO BE BELIEVING IN HIM ENOUGH.

How about we start today to trust HIM, all of HIS word and promises for our lives because HIS word is truth?  Shouldn’t that be enough?

WHY DO WE ALWAYS SEARCH FOR MORE, WHEN THE MORE AND ENOUGH OF WHAT WE WILL EVER NEED, IS RIGHT THERE IN HIS HOLY WRIT?

PSALM 119: 11  “I HAVE STORED UP YOUR WORD IN MY HEART, THAT I MAY NOT SIN AGAINST YOU.”

Embrace HIS word today and hold on tight to the ROCK of Ages…….HE alone will get you through anything you are experiencing.  Because when you are weak, HE is strong within you and because of this truth you will never have to worry about being tough enough, because HE IS ENOUGH……. FOR ALL YOUR NEEDS!

PHILIPPIANS 2: 13  “……..FOR IT IS GOD WHO WORKS IN YOU, BOTH TO WILL AND TO WORK FOR HIS GOOD PLEASURE.”

  1. Ah, I had one of “those” days today, when everything went wrong – like getting the diced onions into the pan, and I slipped, and 1/3 of them ended up on the stove and burner. 🙄
God sends us little reminders that we really can’t do it all, we really aren’t tough enough.
I think that, to be vulnerable, it takes a humble heart, courage, and much discernment (about who to be vulnerable TO). God is first and foremost to open our hearts to; and His wisdom will carry us through to the rest of being humble, giving us courage, and giving us discernment.
Excellent point about working out our own salvation: working out what God has given us!

    1. Yes Kathy, oh those bad days and how to move forward the next day! Only GOD helps me get out of bed the next day and to know HE is with me and HIS mercies are new for me! Walking and working out that salvation in me!

  2. I’m so glad we don’t have to be tough enough, Maxine. Even though our human side tries to maintain the image that we always have it together, God says HE is our strength. That strength is made perfect in weakness. When I am weak, He is strong! Great post today! 💜
