JUST A MINUTE

Have you ever heard the Spirit’s voice speaking to you and thought: OK LORD, I will get to that in a minute?  How often do we hear and know the Spirit’s prompting to us, and we put it off?

EVERYONE IS GUILTY OF PUTTING OFF TOMORROW WHAT SHOULD BE DONE TODAY!

We all have done it and I will admit there are many times I procrastinate!  GOD guides and provides so why do we procrastinate?

In the flesh, we are not doers, we are lazy.  We want the easy way and often GOD is teaching us that the easy way isn’t always the best way.  Usually the harder thing to do is the right thing to do!

When I used to go away to summer skating camp, I roomed with a friend who always asked her Mom: “just 5 more minutes.”  They woke us up quite early to get on the ice so 5 more minutes of sleep was needed.  But don’t we do the same with GOD?  We delay our response to HIS direction by 5 more minutes, or days or weeks and it goes on and on.

WHY DO WE DELAY HIS DIRECTION?

Is it our pride getting in the way?  Somehow do we think we know better?

PSALM 2: 1  “WHY DO THEY WASTE THEIR TIME WITH FUTILE PLANS?”

Wow, that makes you look in the mirror……our everyday plans, yes, man’s plans in GOD’S eyes are futile.  Only GOD’S plans matter.

Hopefully in our Christian walks, we are learning that HIS way truly is the best way. It might seem to be the hard way, but if we follow HIS lead, things will turn out better than expected.  HIS provision gives us just what we need, when we need it.  But we tend to doubt this too, don’t we?  And this is about a trust thing……we doubt so we say, LORD, will get to that and we put HIS direction off.  Our flesh is so weak!

Let us look back and remember those times GOD came through in a big way when we obeyed.  I can name quite a few and I know you can too.

Let’s learn from the disciple Ananias who was in Damascus and had a vision from the LORD.  His response was this:

ACTS 9:10  “HERE I AM LORD.”

Our response to GOD should be……..here I am LORD!

Isaiah 6:8 says it this way:

“…….AND I HEARD THE VOICE OF THE LORD SAYING, WHOM SHALL I SEND, AND WHO WILL GO FOR US?  AND I SAID, HERE AM I; SEND ME.”

The LORD sends us!  Instead of making HIM wait…….shouldn’t we go?

Dear LORD, forgive us all for saying: wait a minute.  Help us to have the character and inner desire that says: HERE I AM LORD, SEND ME!

We have all heard the LORD’S timing is always perfect and when we don’t listen and obey, I wonder how often we have missed those perfect times!  LORD, forgive us for all those times missed!  And forgive us for all those times that we have said: wait a minute.

Let’s intentionally strive to respond and obey HIM and not delay.  When we obey, GOD is honored and will be praised in the situation.  HIS glory will shine and we will know that HE was right alongside us.

So the next time you hear that still small voice, listen, obey and respond with:  Here I am LORD, send me.

PSALM 2: 11  “SERVE THE LORD WITH FEAR AND REJOICE WITH TREMBLING.”

And isn’t that the American way, and isn’t that why we are sliding so inexorably into the pit?

Thank you for this post, Maxine, and for the good and needed reminders to respond immediately when God prompts. As you say, who knows what blessings we miss by putting off God’s timing? Don’t we want the FULL blessing? May we not settle for “blessing, anyway.”
