Is there something that your soul yearns for? Yearning is an intense feeling for something and a feeling of being separated from someone or something.
In the midst of this covid crisis we have had much of our busyness stripped away and we have been on a long pause. But pausing in the midst of our lives can be a good thing…….a good thing for each of our souls!
ISAIAH 26:9 “MY SOUL YEARNS FOR YOU IN THE NIGHT; MY SPIRIT WITHIN ME EARNESTLY SEEKS YOU. FOR WHEN YOUR JUDGEMENTS ARE IN THE EARTH, THE INHABITANTS OF THE WORLD LEARN RIGHTEOUSNESS.”
Could our yearning turn to listening and maybe learning to be a more righteous people? GOD is the GOD of righteousness and GOD has a way of turning our lives upside down so that we will eventually land right side up!
Could our yearning reset our priorities? I hope so! Does your soul yearn for the GOD of Heaven and all HIS provisions? Because if we just yearn for the stuff of this world, then we need to reexamine our hearts and reset our paths.
DO WE HAVE A DEEP PAUSE-YEARNING TO SIT AT THE LORD’S FEET AND DRINK IN HIS WORD?
Are we pausing daily to feel that yearning and let it guide us towards HIM? If we pause and open the door to JESUS today then HE will do this:
REVELATION 3: 20 “I WILL COME IN TO HIM AND EAT WITH HIM. AND HE WITH ME.”
JESUS wants to be with us. Do we yearn to be with HIM? JESUS says HE will draw near, so let’s pause all of our doing and take one day at a time. Let’s learn to be more patient because, HE is so so patient with us.
2 PETER 3: 9 “THE LORD IS NOT SLOW TO FULFILL HIS PROMISE AS SOME COUNT SLOWNESS, BUT IS PATIENT TOWARDS YOU.”
I find that HE is more patient with me than I am with myself! Because HE is a shield around me, HE draws me, HE pauses me and HE fills me. And because of this, I yearn for more……..more of HIS love, HIS blessings, more, more, more!
One of my friends I made here in AZ has a similar yearning that I do. We long to sit with one another, Bibles open on our laps and study and learn scripture all the day long. When we do this together, we long for the next time and the next. Our yearning to sit under HIS word is always there……why?
JEREMIAH 31: 20 “THEREFORE MY HEART YEARNS FOR HIM; I WILL SURELY HAVE MERCY ON HIM, DECLARES THE LORD.”
Pausing allows the word to speak to us and once we fill up on HIS abundant amazing love and grace for us, we yearn for more. Isn’t it wonderful that the well of GOD never runs dry! GOD has placed that yearning within our souls for HIS living water. Since the beginning of time, people have yearned for life’s meaning, for that well……. but GOD! GOD has given us the answer and it is HIM and HIS son, JESUS!
This post has helped me see another equation that is simple to remember:
PAUSING + YEARNING + DRAWING NEAR = GOD!
GOD’S people have always been a rebellious people, and so are we. Usually our pauses in life are brief……but the pause of the pandemic has been profound. It has changed all we know and hopefully has changed us for the better, to be a better people for the GOSPEL and a sharing people of the GOSPEL!
May we be a people that listen to the HOLY WORD instead of the culture and may we be a people that pause to praise the HOLY ONE who gives us life. May we turn from our evil ways, and pause our minds on the GOD of the universe. HE wants our attention……..HE will find a way to get it too. Take a peak outside your window…….see HIM there?
The LORD gives and HE takes away, let us pause long enough to remember all HE has given us and let’s take comfort in knowing that our losses are our gain in HIM! Pause today and seek GOD and watch your yearning increase!
1 CHRONICLES 16: 10-12 “LET THE HEART OF THOSE WHO SEEK THE LORD BE GLAD….SEEK HIS FACE CONTINUALLY. REMEMBER HIS WONDERFUL DEEDS WHICH HE HAS DONE.”
