SHELTER…….DWELLING……REFUGE

WE are at a time in history where much has been taken away from us, orders to stay in our homes and only trips to grocery and essential items are allowed.  No, I don’t think any of us have experienced this before…….we cannot gather with friends or attend school or Church.  Contact with one another has morphed into the 6 foot rule.

For those of us who love people and love being around them, to encourage them and to love on them, this is a tough road.  We are finding ways through our devices to chat in person, call or text.  People are using their cars in creative ways to drive by homes of people they know with signs of warm wishes.  Being compelled to stay away from one another makes us crave each other all the more.  And why?  Didn’t GOD make us that way in the first place?  Isn’t it why HE gave Adam a mate: Eve?

GENESIS 2: 18  “THEN THE LORD GOD SAID: “IT IS NOT GOOD FOR THE MAN TO BE ALONE.”

In all of our alone time, and yes, some are really all alone in this too…….GOD calls us near to HIM.  HE desires more than anything that we make HIM our shelter, our dwelling and our refuge.  Our homes right now truly are our physical refuge……. a refuge from the world and from the virus, but GOD is our spiritual refuge.

Our homes are where our hearts live, where our hearts reside……but GOD is calling us home, even through this crisis!  For those of us who believe, maybe GOD is calling us back to our first love, our shelter and our refuge.  Have we forgotten?

GOD is giving us huge amounts of time to read and learn and pray.  I find myself doing more of those……..how about you?  Without all the crazy busyness, my soul is staying busy in the shelter of the Almighty.  And because I can’t be in the arms of those I love, I find myself dwelling in the arms of the Savior more and more.

DEUTERONOMY 33: 27 “THE ETERNAL GOD IS YOUR DWELLING PLACE, AND UNDERNEATH ARE THE EVERLASTING ARMS.”

We all are in this tough time together…….all of us.  But not all of us are seeking our peace and confidence from the same place.  Are you dwelling in the Shadow of the Almighty?

JOEL 3: 17 “SO YOU SHALL KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD, WHO DWELLS IN ZION, MY HOLY MOUNTAIN.”

The LORD dwells with us and in us……..draw near and HE draws near.  Seek peace and HE gives peace.  HE gives us the daily bread we need and HE quenches our thirst. HE is our true hope and salvation!

LET YOUR HEART DWELL IN THE SHELTER OF HIS WORDS TO YOU…….AND FIND YOUR REFUGE THERE.

In our quiet time, let’s stop all of our talking and listen……..LORD, SPEAK TO US!  Each day read HIS words carefully and take them to heart:

PSALM 37: 7  “BE STILL BEFORE THE LORD AND WAIT PATIENTLY FOR HIM.”

And remember this too……

PSALM 37: 34 “WAIT FOR THE LORD AND KEEP HIS WAY.”

Let’s dwell first, let’s wait on HIM and take shelter in HIS wisdom.  The whole world is waiting right now, waiting to return to normal.  While we wait, let’s wait in HIS shelter of goodness, righteousness and grace.  Fill up on it, treasure it, because JESUS is your first love…….remember why HE came and why HE died…….for you and for me.

Don’t lose hope in this crisis, because JESUS is our only hope!  Let that fact alone be your shelter from this storm.  And let that be your eternal dwelling too.  Be thankful, praise and worship HIM in your own unique way.  Whenever you are able, share with anyone who will listen, why you have the hope that you have! The world needs it right now…….desperately.  The world needs the GOSPEL of JESUS CHRIST.

EXODUS 14: 13-14 “FEAR NOT, STAND FIRM, AND SEE THE SALVATION OF THE LORD, WHICH HE WILL WORK FOR YOU TODAY.  THE LORD WILL FIGHT FOR YOU AND YOU HAVE ONLY TO BE SILENT.”

  1. Wonderful post, Maxine. To me, this best sums up not only what is going on during this pandemic, but what should be the reality every day of our lives: “In all of our alone time, and yes, some are really all alone in this too…….GOD calls us near to HIM. HE desires more than anything that we make HIM our shelter, our dwelling and our refuge. Our homes right now truly are our physical refuge……. a refuge from the world and from the virus, but GOD is our spiritual refuge.”

    1. Thanks David…….remember your thought for this Year? It was: learn more, draw closer. I adopted what you said because my heart loved your thought. And here we are with so much time to draw near, read HIS word and just Abide in HIM!

  2. I know these are very hard times, yet how wonderful that God would call us all aside for a loving time out to spend some time with Him in the safety and comfort of our home. May His presence be our peace in everything that grips us with fear.
Me and God love you, Maxine! So glad You are able to see the precious value of this time He wants to spend with You.
