BARNABAS AWARD

“You have been chosen for this recognition because of the encouragement and inspiration you bring to your readers.”

I think GOD is an amazing GOD, but I do believe that HE really does have a sense of humor and knows our soft spots.  So when I was nominated for this award I remembered this……

Just last week I commented on someone’s blog who had written that there are too many blog awards and do they really honor GOD?  I agreed with him and then received this nomination from a sweet blogger I follow who I adore.  You can find Gail at: http://www.gaillovesgod.blog

This nomination is a different one in general because it honors those who are encouragers to others.  I think bloggers live off of encouragement from one another besides their LORD of course and encouragement certainly keeps me writing!!  In my book, Gail has always been such an encouragement to me because of her great passion and love for GOD!

To be encouraged by someone is to be: sustained, supported and favored.  I have always felt highly favored by Gail from across the miles!  Her encouragement helps me to continue to write on Heavensreef and I know her support comes from GOD through her words to me.  Her praise of GOD consistently helps me to seek HIM more passionately!

I also need to thank Jacquie at:  http://www.joycottage.blog.  Jacquie has recently started to encourage me and I follow her lovely blog.  So I am honored that she mentioned me a second time and thank you dear one!  Jacquie shares much wisdom on her site, so please visit her.

I know that if Gail and the other bloggers here in this Christian community were not abiding in their faiths, that their words would not touch and encourage me in the way that they do.  So let’s give the credit where it all truly belongs because none of us are writing without HIS help……..

OUR SAVIOR AND LORD: JESUS CHRIST!

If you know the story of Barnabas in the Bible, then you know that he was mentioned in ACTS: 4:36-37:

“JOSEPH, A LEVITE FROM CYPRUS BY BIRTH, THE ONE THE APOSTLES CALLED BARNABAS {WHICH IS TRANSLATED SON OF ENCOURAGEMENT}, SOLD A FIELD HE OWNED, BROUGHT THE MONEY AND LAID IT AT THE APOSTLES FEET.”

Barnabas was an encourager and because of his love for his fellow believers, he sacrificed what he had for them, due to his great love for them.

BARNABAS AWARD RULES:

Thank the person who nominated you, and share their blog.

Think of five bloggers who encourage you and inspire you and list them.

List five things about yourself.

Lastly, ask your nominees five questions……why five?  Because it is the number that signifies grace!

NOMINEES:

I WILL BE DUPLICATING HERE…….SOME PEOPLE GAIL HAS ALREADY LISTED!  But I cannot not mention them AGAIN.  AND it is because they all mean so much to me with each passing comment they leave on this blog.  I am so humbled and grateful for them!

STU at http://www.stubaby777.wordpress.com

Because Stu is so real and authentic on his blog, I know that any comment he leaves me is real and well thought out.  His blog reflects all that GOD has done in his life.

TOSIN at http://www.aletheasmind.wordpress.com

Because Tosin thinks outside the box, she encourages me with her heartfelt comments and inspires me to focus only on the LORD.  Her posts amaze me.

KRISTI ANN at http://www.kristiann1.com

Kristi Ann’s blog will inspire you to look deeper into GOD, but also will encourage you with one look!! Her words there every day inspire me!  You will see JESUS on her site!

KATHY at http://www.maggietiggles.wordpress.com

Kathy’s encouraging comments to me always seem to be thoughts that complete my posts!  And I tend to think: darn, I should have thought more on that!  But she inspires me greatly and I am so touched by her taking the time to leave long comments.  Everyone’s time is precious……and her taking the time to respond touches my heart.

SUE at http://www.runwithit.blog

I always feel Sue’s love through her comments to me……..she is an example to me of the Body of Christ coming alongside one another with encouragement.

GOD loves all of the above mentioned bloggers and so do I.  I can see how HE works through them to put words down that will touch, edify and most of all encourage their readers!

THE QUESTIONS FROM GAIL:

1.  Who in your life is your biggest encourager?

JESUS CHRIST & HIS HOLY WORD.

2.  How do you see yourself as an encouragement to others?

I learned a long time ago that being kind, a kind word or action goes a long way.  But I know now that I may be the only JESUS someone has encountered in their day…….so I take HIM with me wherever I go and encourage as much as I can whether in my writing here or in my daily interactions with anyone who crosses my path.

3.  When was the last time someone gave you words of encouragement?  My Pastor, Adam did, just this past Sunday.  He encourages me to abide in CHRIST.

4.  When you are down, what encourages you to get back up and keep pressing on?

Holy Scripture!  I make it a point to find just one, memorize it and I am in awe how the word lifts me and encourages me to persevere through whatever challenging season I am in.

FIVE THINGS ABOUT MYSELF:

I LOVE JESUS who is my priority in life.

I LOVE that GOD sent HIS son to atone for my sins on the Cross.  That HE loved me that much!

I LOVE that I am HIS adopted daughter and I cherish HIS Holy written WORD.

I ADORE my Church, my pastor, my small group and where I live in beautiful Arizona!

5 QUESTIONS FOR THE NOMINEES.……but no pressure.  Since you have been nominated again some of you, you might not have time to answer!

1. When you were a child, who was your biggest encourager?

2.  Now, today, who encourages you the most?

3.  How can you be a better Barnabas to those around you?

4.  What one story in the Bible encourages you to press on in your faith every time you read it?

5.  What is your most encouraging verse from the Bible……your “go to” verse when you so need it?

LET US ALL……continue to encourage our readers and one another and remember that being a Barnabas is worthwhile to everyone you encounter! And remember this scripture about him……

ACTS 11; 23-24 “WHEN HE ARRIVED AND SAW THE GRACE OF GOD, HE WAS GLAD AND ENCOURAGED ALL OF THEM TO REMAIN TRUE TO THE LORD WITH DEVOTED HEARTS , FOR HE WAS A GOOD MAN, FULL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND OF FAITH.   AND LARGE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE WERE ADDED TO THE LORD.”

So thankful for all our years together, as friends, as Christian Sisters, as servants in Emmaus especially. I am so thankful that GOD brought us together! Love you and miss you terribly!

    1. Wonderful Stu! Glad it all came across that way……to encourage you all back. But let’s remember as always this is all a GOD thing. HE wants us in relationship with HIM and then to honor HIM in relationship with others! I look forward to reading your response!!

  4. Maxine, you are such an encourager! I enjoyed reading your post, written from your heart. I am always edified and encouraged from your writings. You make me think. 😊
I often (as I did today) end up in my Bible app, looking up verses and word meanings. The Encouragement part of Barnabas’ name is from the Hebrew, paraklēseōs, interestingly enough, the same root of the word used for the Holy Spirit of Whom Jesus spoke in John 14.26, The Comforter: Paraklētos.
God’s Spirit within you encourages His Spirit within me.
