LET IT REST

A friend once advised me to: let it rest…….just let it be.  When we are going through troubling circumstances, oh how our minds run away with the problem!  Our thoughts consume us, turning over and over in our minds until we are exhausted mentally and sometimes physically.

I like to call this: mind-labor.  We labor though a problem.  We mind-labor with worry attached!

In Psalm 86: 1 David laments this way……..

“LISTEN LORD AND ANSWER ME FOR I AM POOR AND NEEDY.”

David’s spirit was poor and he very much needed GOD.  It’s funny how problems can weigh heavy on our hearts and souls.  Sometimes our souls become restless beyond measure and all we want and need is peace, so really we should just……….

Let it rest.

So how do we go about this?  Let’s remember what JESUS said:

MATTHEW 11: 29 “TAKE MY YOKE UPON YOU, AND LEARN FROM ME, FOR I AM GENTLE AND LOWLY IN HEART AND YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.”

When your heart is not at rest, is there anyone who would truly come and take the time to find out:  why?

THERE IS ONLY ONE WHO IS ALWAYS, ALWAYS THERE AND HE SAYS: “I WILL GIVE YOU THE REST YOU NEED.”

We need only to come to HIM!  The days can be long and the nights too…….but our SAVIOR is there to give us rest when we need it.  Our GOD is so big and so faithful.  HE wants HIS children at rest.

JESUS alone understands our crumbling hearts, our need for grace and our need for that peaceful rest within our souls.  We need to humbly come before HIM and ask HIM for this relief.

HEBREWS 4: 16 “LET US THEN WITH CONFIDENCE DRAW NEAR TO THE THRONE OF GRACE, THAT WE MAY RECEIVE MERCY AND FIND GRACE TO HELP IN TIME OF NEED.”

Only at the throne of GRACE can we find our help………so we can rest!

Have you ever stood in a room full of people and wondered what they would think of you if they knew what your soul was going through?  Yes, that feeling is a feeling of being unknown.

But GOD knows us deep down……..we just need to rest in HIS nearness to us.

PSALM 138: 1-3 “LORD, YOU HAVE SEARCHED ME AND KNOWN ME, YOU KNOW WHEN I SIT DOWN AND WHEN I STAND UP; YOU UNDERSTAND MY THOUGHTS FROM FAR AWAY.  YOU OBSERVE MY TRAVELS AND MY REST; YOU ARE AWARE OF ALL MY WAYS.”

And because the LORD knows us so well, HE knows our hearts…….and HE says to us……..

LET IT REST WITH ME.

We can and should make every effort to draw near to HIM ……..

HEBREWS 4: 11 “LET US THEN MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ENTER THAT REST, SO THAT NO ONE WILL FALL INTO THE SAME PATTERN OF DISOBEDIENCE.”

When we are troubled, when we don’t enter HIS rest, we are actually being disobedient!  Why?  Because we are trying to work things out in our own way, rather than handing over our issues to our GOD who is bigger than any issue we may have!  GOD doesn’t want HIS children to worry and fret……..

MATTHEW 6: 27 “WHO OF YOU BY WORRYING CAN ADD A SINGLE HOUR TO HIS LIFE?”

I am so thankful my sweet friend reminded me to let it rest.  I was worrying over something that only GOD could take care of.  So, let us make every effort to come before HIM, being obedient in HIS word of truth that tells us this:

HEBREWS 4: 1 “THEREFORE, SINCE THE PROMISE OF ENTERING HIS REST STILL STANDS, LET US BE CAREFUL THAT NONE OF YOU BE FOUND TO HAVE FALLEN SHORT OF IT.”

SO DEAR ONES, WHATEVER IS TROUBLING YOU TODAY, LAY THAT DOWN AT THE THROWN OF GRACE AND PEACE WHEN YOU……..

LET IT REST IN HIM.

  1. When worry really begins to take over, I don’t ask God to take away the problem. Rather, I pray for “the peace that surpasses all understanding” (Philippians 4:7). I say something such as, “Lord, I desperately need to rest my mind from this situation. If you’re willing to give me some of that peace of Yours, than I’m most willing to accept it!”

  2. I find it interesting that, in Hebrews 4, God was talking about rest when He gave us that passage in verses 12 and 13: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”
What you said, “When we are troubled, when we don’t enter HIS rest, we are actually being disobedient! Why? Because we are trying to work things out in our own way, rather than handing over our issues to our GOD” – I think it is about that very issue. God knows our hearts. He discerns what, in our hearts, is of our own striving. He offers the wisdom of His Holy Spirit to ferret out that truth for us, so we know what to give to Him, and what to take from Him.
