STAY…….CONTINUE…….DWELL

To dwell with JESUS and live in HIS word is a continued lifelong process……..did you know?

If we have made that commitment to JESUS as our LORD, then go on with our lives as we see fit, (notice I said we), then we have made a false commitment.

The word abide is used so frequently in Scripture you can’t help but notice it!  My first year of choosing words just so happened to lead me in HIS direction of what abiding means: to continually dwell.

The picture above is my sign that hangs in my office………I am reminded daily to: stay……..continue……..dwell.  But oh how the world distracts me!  Oh how I take my eyes off my wonderful Savior only to be enticed by worldly things!  I get distracted and off mission when I don’t abide with HIM!  But I know in my heart that the world’s bright and shiny in no way takes the place of the treasure there is in knowing and loving JESUS, loving HIS people and staying on mission for HIM.

How about you?  Would love to hear what your distraction is!  What keeps you from doing this…….

STAY…….CONTINUE…….DWELL

JESUS spoke to some Jewish believers and HE said the following…….

JOHN 8: 31-32 “IF YOU ABIDE IN MY WORD, YOU ARE TRULY MY DISCIPLES, AND YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.”

And this well known scripture……..

JOHN 15: 4 “ABIDE IN ME, AND I IN YOU.”

JESUS wants us to stay with HIM.

JESUS wants us to continue with HIM.

JESUS wants us to dwell with HIM.

Our dwelling is our staying steadfast with JESUS………keeping HIS word continually present in our hearts.  So we must examine what is within our hearts that hinder our abiding with HIM!

If JESUS is our rest, if JESUS is our all and all, our comfort and our joy, shouldn’t we have the desire to dwell consistently with HIM?  A great visual is to imagine JESUS alongside us throughout our day.  Is HE there with us when we walk out our doors, or do we leave HIM behind?  Does HE become a second thought, rather than our first thought?

Our hearts desire should be to stay, to continue and to dwell.  But we have to be intentional because of all of the world’s distractions that bombard us daily.

I am one of those people that seems to live the out of sight, out of mind concept.  I have to keep those GODLY reminders all around me, to keep me focused upon the LORD.  Our minds wander and with cell phones there is continual distraction.

My morning time spent with the LORD can continue throughout the day, when I bring JESUS with me wherever I go.   We remember to take our cell phones with us, so why not JESUS!!

STAY…….CONTINUE…….DWELL

Let’s embrace the following scripture, remain with HIM, stay with HIM and in HIM.  Let’s be intentional about it starting today.

PSALM 91: 1 “HE WHO DWELLS IN THE SHELTER OF THE MOST HIGH WILL ABIDE IN THE SHADOW OF THE ALMIGHTY.”

  1. He invites us to abide, shows us how to abide, guides us to abide; because He knows that’s the very best place for us, the most peaceful and joyful. I read one time that abiding in Him is a little like a child in her father’s lap. The child doesn’t always talk to or with her father, but plays with and interacts with other people / other things from the safety of that lap. That’s abiding.

  2. Great insights, Maxine, and here’s the key which you worded perfectly: “I get distracted and off mission when I don’t abide with HIM!” This goes for EVERY believer; there are no exceptions. Thank you for the excellent reminder.
