FINDING JOY IN THE QUIET

There is something to be said for quiet……..I think all of us crave peace and quiet.  Our very souls need a quiet that only GOD can provide.

Because of many daily distractions, it is a very hard thing to find the quiet we so often crave.  How many of us have yelled at one time or another: “all I want is some peace and quiet!”

I think all of the noise is weighing us down don’t you?  Sometimes it is even hard to find peace and quiet in our own homes.  We tend to think of them as our sanctuaries, but we often experience stress and noise inside the very walls that we believe are our homes.

Ahh, home sweet home!  It is an escape from the world, it is where your very heart resides along with your family.  So how do we find the quiet in the first place?  Our minds wander with all the distractions and interruptions and they don’t turn off because of mental lists we keep making.

We have to be intentional to find that quiet……..honestly we have to fight for it.  We have to be intentional and persistent, because the enemy would like nothing better than to tangle us all up in our busyness!

I used to be the one who said: well LORD I will get to my quiet time……sometime today.  And guess what?  I never would get to my time with the LORD.  I knew I had to change things!

How is your quiet time?  Doesn’t matter where or when you find it, but for the sake of your soul, find it!

PSALM 25: 14-15  “THE FRIENDSHIP OF THE LORD IS FOR THOSE WHO FEAR HIM, AND HE MAKES KNOWN TO THEM HIS COVENANT.  MY EYES ARE EVER TURNED TOWARD THE LORD.” ESV

Did you see it?  The above verse says: “my eyes”.  Our eyes need to remain upon HIM……

PSALM 25: 15  “MY EYES ARE ALWAYS ON THE LORD.”

If you read my last post, I addressed what our eyes see and to not allow our eyes to rest upon evil and worthless things.  Keeping our eyes upon the LORD, draws us near and drawing near will encourage within us a quiet spirit and nature.

Fear of the LORD and our time being so fleeting should encourage all of us to……..

PSALM 46: 10 “BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD.”

To truly know HIM is to love HIM.  To find the LORD is to fear HIM and to be quiet in HIS presence.  It is a treasure and there is nothing like it.  Find a way every day to sit in HIS arms of peace!

AND WHEN THAT QUIET HAPPENS…….WE ULTIMATELY WILL……..

PSALM 47: 1 “CLAP YOUR HANDS, ALL PEOPLES!  SHOUT TO GOD WITH LOUD SONGS OF JOY.”

There is all kinds of joy, but this is joy of heart with such fullness that your joy spreads to all around you.  Your peaceful time will fill you with joy!

But you say, there are too many problems that crowd my quiet and they weigh me down.  But I say dear reader, leave them!  Leave it all at the foot of the CROSS with the ONE who will carry you and lift you up.  GOD’S word will lift you and guide you into peace.

ISAIAH 30:15  “FOR THUS SAID THE LORD, GOD, THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL, “IN RETURNING AND REST YOU SHALL BE SAVED; IN QUIETNESS AND IN TRUST SHALL BE YOUR STRENGTH.”

Our quietness then……..is our strength!  How in the world can we ever be strong in the LORD, if we don’t ever be quiet in HIM?  GOD supplies all we need in our quiet, so we can leave that special time filled and recharged, to go and be effective on mission in our difficult worlds.  HE will supply all we need in our quiet……..THAT SHOULD GIVE US JOY AND GIVE US PEACE……..A PEACE THAT GOES BEYOND ALL OUR UNDERSTANDING!

ZEPHANIAH 3: 17 “HE WILL REJOICE OVER YOU WITH GLADNESS; HE WILL QUIET YOU BY HIS LOVE.”

  1. Maxine, Yes, having time alone with God in peace and quiet is so essential to our walks of faith. I know those alone times with God are harder to find in our younger years, especially when we have small children. I am past those years and now and I am enjoying the peace and quiet a lot. And, those are special times, for sure. And, they really should not end, but they should extend throughout our day as we continue hearing the Lord speak his words to our hearts, and as we pray without ceasing, keeping the doors of communication with him always opened. I love how the Lord speaks to me throughout the day, oftentimes through scriptural songs. He ministers to my spirit continuously, and he counsels me in the way I should go even before I take my concerns to him in prayer.
