IT’S ALL SACRIFICE

If you think on it, someone, somewhere made a sacrifice for you to be where you are in life today.  Your parents or a relative or teacher or even a close friend somewhere, or sometime made a sacrifice for you.  Have you thanked them?  This sacrifice may have been big or small, but however it was……

anything that is worth something involves sacrifice.

My parents sacrificed much for me.  I can still remember both of them sitting each week at our kitchen table, counting their money and deciding how to pay for my pricey figure skating lessons and ice time.  Their weekly sacrifice contributed to my future 30 year career of being a Figure Skating Professional/Instructor.

SACRIFICE HAPPENS WHEN WE LOOK BEYOND OURSELVES TO A GREATER GOOD.

Sacrifice happens when our hearts reach beyond self.   It is a surrender of something for the sake of something else.  Are you currently sacrificing for someone with your time, your talent or your money?  Is your sacrifice in the name of JESUS?

JESUS sacrificed HIMSELF on the Cross for our sins.  HIS sacrifice was sacred and precious in GOD’S sight.  HIS sacrifice atoned for all of our sins.  HIS sacrifice was and is a gift to us.

JOHN 10: 11 “I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD.  THE GOOD SHEPHERD LAYS DOWN HIS LIFE FOR THE SHEEP.”

Let’s look at Simon Peter and Andrew.   Fishing was their livelihood and they left their nets just to follow JESUS.  I wonder if at the time they thought they were sacrificing their whole world and yet, look at all they gained!

MARK 1: 18: “And immediately they left their nets and followed HIM.”

The word that stands out here is:  immediately.  What a sacrifice to just walk away!  Walking away cost them……..but look WHO they followed and all that they gained!

We experience every day small sacrifices too.  All and all, sacrifice causes us to pray, to stretch us, strain us and even mature us.  Sacrifice is a good thing even though often, we do not like it.

Sacrifice is a maturing because GOD is fully committed to growing us……did you know?

Often the cry of our hearts out to GOD involves sacrifice that is in front of us.  We ask why and how and when and we draw near to our Savior for help because……..

HE STRETCHES US!  AND HE GROWS US AND WANTS TO BE NEAR US!

Like a parent, and the parent that our FATHER is, HE wants us to stretch our wings…… and fly!

Let us sacrifice for one another, in service, in prayer and in love.  Love for one another being the greatest of all.  Love the difficult ones and believe me now in our world there are many!

Our everyday sacrifices, our small and even big sacrifices don’t even come close to the sacrifice of JESUS on the Cross for our sins.  In response to HIS gift to us, let us then respond in sacrifice to one another in gifts of love, time, talent and even our wealth.

Because when sacrifice occurs, maturing happens.

COLOSSIANS 1: 11 “MAY YOU BE STRENGTHENED WITH ALL POWER, ACCORDING TO HIS GLORIOUS MIGHT, FOR ALL ENDURANCE AND PATIENCE WITH JOY, GIVING THANKS TO THE FATHER, WHO HAS QUALIFIED YOU TO SHARE IN THE INHERITANCE OF THE SAINTS IN LIGHT.”

    1. Yes we need to be aware of all those little sacrifices we do and those who do them for us. Writing takes time as you know, but I do love it…….don’t you? I find I am happiest when I am writing for the LORD!!
