My husband and I recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. We didn’t do those special things people do on those big dates like cruises or Europe trips. But we still honored our day with a nice dinner at one of our favorite restaurants.
Looking back it’s hard to realize where all those years have gone! Being married takes work and compromise. We were married in the Church and agreed in front of GOD to keep the marriage covenant. GOD is the GOD of covenants and HE has been walking alongside us through our years together.
Walking together and with GOD each year requires perseverance and steadfastness.
2 JOHN 6: “THIS IS LOVE: THAT WE WALK ACCORDING TO HIS COMMANDS. THIS IS THE COMMAND AS YOU HAVE HEARD IT FROM THE BEGINNING: THAT YOU WALK IN LOVE.”
How do we walk out GOD’S commands for us when life is hard and troubles run deep? What should matter to us to help us take those trusting daily and yearly steps?
1 CORINTHIANS 15: 58 “THEREFORE, MY BELOVED BROTHERS, BE STEADFAST, IMMOVABLE, ALWAYS ABOUNDING IN THE WORK OF THE LORD, KNOWING THAT IN THE LORD YOUR LABOR IS NOT IN VAIN.”
Do you see it there? Remain steadfast and immovable! Do not stray from that walk you are on:
HIS PATH OF LOVE
WALKING IN LOVE SHOULD BE OUR GOAL, BECAUSE WALKING IN FAITH IS HARD.
We must walk that path with those around us who love us, whether it is family or friends, or Church community. We need them to build us up, and walk alongside us when we are weak and when the labor is hard. But our labor is not in vain…….ever.
“IN THE LORD YOUR LABOR IS NOT IN VAIN.”
GOD walks among us, with us, bearing our burdens alongside us…….a true walk by our sides. HE comforts, strengthens and guides. Our momentary troubles are just that: for a moment compared to eternity.
Marriage, like life, has many seasons: some are sunny and bright and others are cold, lonely and dry. But if we remain steadfast, immovable on our path of love, we can continue to put one foot in front of the other and then before we know it, the years add up. And it is all because of HIS amazing, loving, grace for us!
Happy Anniversary to my dear Husband and father, friend and love. GOD has walked HIS love walk with us, even when we haven’t seen HIM there…….how else would we have made it through 40 years together?
LEVITICUS 26: 12 “I WILL WALK AMONG YOU; I WILL BE YOUR GOD, AND YOU WILL BE MY PEOPLE.”
