Not knowing what is around the next corner is hard. Sometimes living in that unknown can send us into a panic mode. Your mind runs away with all the scenarios that could occur and you feel like you are on shaky ground.
PSALM 40: 2 “HE SET MY FEET ON A ROCK AND GAVE ME A FIRM PLACE TO STAND.”
Recently I experienced this. The final leg of my son’s journey back to Colorado came to a halt when his car overheated at midnight and he had to pull off in a dark place along the highway.
I knew approximately where he was, but there were too many unknowns. Will the car start back up? When will help come? Could it all be an easy fix? As a mother who will do anything for her child, I remained awake during the night with him and texted back and forth. One thing I could do in the middle of that unknown was to pray. I had to know my son was ok, because right then and there, there were too many unknowns…….too many variables and I had too many negative scenarios running through my mind!
So what did I do? In the middle of my panicked helpless heart, I prayed again and again for GOD to protect him. I prayed for my son’s safety above all and to give my son the strength and wisdom for the long night alone in his car. And he was really alone……..except GOD was there too!
ALL THOSE UNKNOWNS WE CANNOT SEE……..OUR GOD IS ALREADY THERE!
I am learning to wait in those unknowns………even if fearful, even if panicked. I am learning to wait and see……..see what GOD does. When I rush ahead in my own strength, I always seem to mess up. When we are compelled to charge forward, we make rash decisions. I also am learning as the scripture says that there is a season and time for everything. A season of unknowns can happen to us and if we believe GOD walks ahead of us, if we really think about it……..HE already has the situation worked out for us because……..
GOD ALREADY EXISTS IN THAT UNKNOWN FOR US!
We should take great comfort in the above statement. We need to relax and trust in GOD’S timetable. Because HE sees the whole story where we can’t. And maybe that isn’t such a bad thing when we cannot see ahead, because maybe we wouldn’t bother to get out of bed in the morning!
May we, even when we cannot see clearly, but all we see are the unknowns, may we need to do this:
PHILIPPIANS 3: 13-14 “BUT ONE THING I DO: FORGETTING WHAT IS BEHIND AND REACHING FORWARD TO WHAT IS AHEAD, I PURSUE AS MY GOAL THE PRIZE PROMISED BY GOD’S HEAVENLY CALL IN CHRIST JESUS.”
That goal, that prize is for us all who want to be with JESUS! All those unknowns we go through are worth it, because we learn to trust the GOD who leads us toward the prize!
In the middle of those unknowns, let us pray and hang on to all of GOD’S holy word that comforts and sustains us.
To live through an unknown should instill in us wonder: wonder and delight that GOD carries us at all and sustains us through! What would we do without HIM!
I tend to approach the unknown with fear, but instead I should remain confident in HIS promises for me and know that HIS character is ONE that can do and accomplish all things.
THE IMPOSSIBLE UNKNOWN BECOMES POSSIBLE WITH GOD BY OUR SIDE.
EPHESIANS 2: 10 “FOR WE ARE HIS WORKMANSHIP, CREATED IN CHRIST JESUS FOR GOOD WORKS, WHICH GOD PREPARED AHEAD OF TIME FOR US TO DO.” CSB
Another version says it like this:
EPHESIANS 2: 10 “FOR WE ARE GOD’S HANDIWORK, CREATED IN CHRIST JESUS TO DO GOOD WORKS, WHICH GOD PREPARED IN ADVANCE FOR US TO DO.” NIV
Both versions of this scripture speak to the “beforehand” and “ahead of time” which shows us that GOD’S time is different from ours. HE already works and is present in our future unknowns and this should sustain us.
After all is said and done let us write this on our hearts friends……..because of our Savior, JESUS CHRIST, we can confidently write the word victory over all our unknowns to come. GOD is already there, working it out for us because HE knows what is best for us……..trust in the VICTORY of the Cross!
PSALM 18: 50 “YOU GIVE GREAT VICTORIES TO YOUR KING; YOU SHOW UNFAILING LOVE TO YOUR ANOINTED, TO DAVID AND ALL HIS DESCENDANTS FOREVER.”
