The Christian road we all walk is not always an easy one. If you think on it, we walk counter to the culture. I was always taught that if I walked along the side of the road to always walk against the traffic so that I could see the oncoming cars. In a way we walk our Christian road doing the same thing. With CHRIST alongside us, we can walk towards the hard and tough storms that come our way, whether it is people or circumstances. Our eyes are wide open where we “see” more clearly and therefore can be that welcome spirit to anyone in need.
Have you made the decision to follow JESUS, or are you following along with the culture?
Walking the road with JESUS by your side can be unbelievable, amazing and invigorating. You know you are loved unconditionally and you know you are free from your sins. But best of all, you know you are welcome into HIS arms, anytime and anywhere. HE listens and HE forgives.
How much more then, should we walk our road as a road of welcome to others. We must invest time into the hurting souls around us, because it’s not about us! It’s all about our Father in Heaven and HIS glory. So I am asking you a hard question:
are you approachable?
What I mean by that is do you make eye contact with those who cross your path, really looking at people realizing that they too are children of GOD? Do you take the time to engage in a little conversation with those around you? You would be surprised by how many people are starving for simple conversation! How sad it is to see people so engrossed in their cell phones that they never look up to notice others. A friend mentioned to me she was at the park the other day and saw that every single MOM was looking down at their cell phones……..and their children were playing right in front of them! Oh what they are missing!
I am afraid we are losing our simple ability to engage with one another.
But you can be different from everyone else! You can be the one who notices, who helps and who understands and listens. Yes it takes time, your time, but investing your time in the things of eternity is never a waste! Put that phone down, it can wait and be that welcome smile to a stranger………it could change a life! How do you know that you weren’t put in someone’s path by GOD to be HIS hands and feet…….to be that one……..welcome………heart…….. to someone truly in need?
I think reaching out when we are the ones to do it, with GOD’S help, takes some bravery on our part. Maybe you are an introvert or maybe you just don’t do that sort of thing. But I think the more you reach out in small ways, the easier it becomes. Let us be the ones who seek to understand before we are understood. That takes some forgetting about ourselves and the realization that JESUS is no longer here physically in the world……so that leaves us, as HIS chosen ones who are filled with HIS spirit, to love and love much, and to reach out with a welcome smile and spirit.
In the book of ISAIAH, the LORD spoke to Isaiah, saying that his guilt was taken away and his sins were atoned for. And the LORD said in ISAIAH 6: 8……
“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”
And Isaiah understood that question and responded with:
“Here am I! Send me.”
The LORD sends…….and we should be HIS people who go. Let us be obedient and go in love, let us go with a welcome attitude. Let us be HIS righteous people, with much grace and mercy for others.
Let your road be a road of welcome………the LORD is counting on you this day.
ISAIAH 30: 21 “AND YOUR EARS SHALL HEAR A WORD BEHIND YOU, SAYING, “THIS IS THE WAY, WALK IN IT,” WHEN YOU TURN TO THE RIGHT OR WHEN YOU TURN TO THE LEFT.”
Welcome someone today, in your home or in your neighborhood, on the street or wherever the road takes you. Be the one who says: “Here I am LORD, send me!”
1 PETER 1: 22 – 23 “HAVING PURIFIED YOUR SOULS BY YOUR OBEDIENCE TO THE TRUTH FOR A SINCERE BROTHERLY LOVE, LOVE ONE ANOTHER EARNESTLY FROM A PURE HEART, SINCE YOU HAVE BEEN BORN AGAIN, NOT OF PERISHABLE SEED BUT OF IMPERISHABLE, THROUGH THE LIVING AND ABIDING WORD OF GOD.”
