Do people in your world demand much, but offer you little? Do they require of you an undeserved favor? How about undeserved grace?
Last night I witnessed an undeserved grace at our HOA meeting. There was a sweet man there that had received several notices of violations in the mail and then a fine. He came with many questions and because of a cultural issue was having trouble understanding. Our HOA which is very new, listened intently and then agreed to waive the fine for him. It was an undeserved favor, but it was wonderful to watch happen right before my eyes!
If you think about it, we are a society of demands. How often have you heard someone say: “I deserve this or better yet……they deserved that!
People that cross our path require from us an undeserved favor. Throughout history, people received undeserved favor from the LORD. And we, as sinners receive that favor from the LORD frequently and repeatedly……..
PSALM 30:5 “FOR HIS ANGER IS BUT FOR A MOMENT, AND HIS FAVOR IS FOR A LIFETIME.”
It is important that we all realize that GOD’S favor is upon HIS children. And the eye-opener is that we don’t deserve any of that favor!!
The reason for that favor is because JESUS stood in the gap for us, for our sins. HE took our place at the Cross and was nailed to it along with all of our sins.
Now, if we understand GOD’S favor upon us, how much more can we give to those around us who also do not deserve favor from us?
What grace we have and experience now from the LORD, is only a small example of the abundance of what is to come!
Knowing that we experience HIS grace should allow us to give those around us abundant favor and grace…….whether they deserve it or not! And that is a hard thing to grasp, especially when those people who demand from us are so self-absorbed that they don’t even realize the hurt they inflict on those around them. And this can happen with anyone and even in families.
We have a helper, the HOLY SPIRIT that guides and protects us and holds our hearts safe. But we must ask for that protection, not because we deserve it, but because we are in desperate need of it!
PSALM 51: 11-12 “CAST ME NOT AWAY FROM YOUR PRESENCE, AND TAKE NOT YOUR HOLY SPIRIT FROM ME. RESTORE TO ME THE JOY OF YOUR SALVATION, AND UPHOLD ME WITH A WILLING SPIRIT.”
GOD gives us so much undeserved grace………how can we not extend that same grace to someone else? Is your spirit willing? I think this is a habit that needs to be learned don’t you? We need to understand how GOD gives that undeserved favor to us, embrace it, then extend that grace and undeserved favor to others, over and over and over. GOD’S favor is upon us throughout our lifetimes. Our world is in need of much favor and people are hurting and broken. GOD’S favor upon us should extend beyond ourselves reaching out to all who cross our path, over and over.
Understanding GOD’S favor upon you will open your eyes to others who need grace…….look for it and touch someone today. Who knows, your touch of undeserved favor might change a life!
PSALM 84:11 “FOR THE LORD GOD IS SUN AND SHIELD; THE LORD BESTOWS FAVOR AND HONOR.”
