Just recently I read this quote by Ignatius…….
“There are very few men who realize what GOD would make of them if they abandoned themselves into HIS hands and let themselves be formed by HIS grace.”
My word for 2018 is: abundance. I have been trying to understand how GOD gives us the abundant life we so seriously search for. The quote above got me thinking…….
Could it be as simple as letting ourselves go…….letting ourselves, our souls, character and our conscience be formed by HIS grace? Just…….letting……..go? Abandoning ourselves?
What could that possibly look like? Every morning we all do some of the same tasks. We eat, drink, go to work, take care of children, play or go on vacation, serve others and through it all…….we continue to search and we continue to try to earn HIS grace.
Could it be that our small GOD-made hole was meant to be filled by an even bigger Sovereign GOD? If I let go of myself, and let HIM fill me, won’t I see and be filled with HIS never-ending abundance?
Our JESUS died on the Cross so we could live an abundant life of freedom…….freedom from our sins. Most of us don’t live in this freedom and we don’t seem to understand what that freedom is. HE died on the Cross so we could be set free from our sins……let us live like it! Live abundantly in the joy of that freedom! Let go of yourself!
Abundant living is different…….different from the mainstream, it is a transformed living. Our road to abundant living is even different from each other…….it is a road less traveled, it is a road however, that is clearly marked……just for you and just for me. Stop trying to copy what someone else does to appear that they are holy or wise or scholarly. How do you know they really are? Shouldn’t we want to copy JESUS, the only wise and Holy ONE?
YES! And why? Because you have abandoned yourself to be “just like JESUS”. You realize that when you are closest to GOD, you are most like yourself, you abide with HIM and HE abides closely with you. You are not alone in your journey and never have to worry that you will be. Because HE is there and HE has taken residence in your heart and soul! You are filled with HIS grace, love and HIS beautiful and stunning WORD to share with everyone around you.
When I abandon myself, truly let go and let HIM hold me and lead me, isn’t that the true abundance I am looking for? What if HIS ability to form me, to mold me, is the only way to abundant living?
JOHN 10:10 “I CAME THAT THEY MAY HAVE LIFE AND HAVE IT ABUNDANTLY.”
I have concluded that the road to GOD’S abundance is a small and narrow road and few find it. Few find it because they spend their waking moments in worry or searching for something or someone to fill them. Our identity is in HIM friends!
Surrender and Abandon Yourself!
Our culture is a “me” culture and we, as the Body of Christ, are unified with one message, the Cross. Our Christian culture is an “it’s all about GOD” culture. We point ourselves and others towards HIM. Keeping our gaze on HIM let’s us “see” HIS abundance…….in everything!
If we will abandon ourselves for CHRIST, we will abandon our bragging rights on ourselves. Our Pastor said it better this past Sunday:
How is the quality of your brag?
Who is the focus of your bragging? Is it you or is it your GOD?
1 Corinthians 1:31 “…….so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the LORD.”
If we abandon ourselves, we will desire to talk about and boast about our amazing GOD. Our wisdom will come from GOD and are allegiance will be to HIM and HIM only.
When we abandon ourselves, we transform, we renew, and we leave the old self behind because CHRIST is our only message, our only love, our only life. CHRIST has HIS hand on us, guiding us towards our future home and guiding us towards HIM. And when we think we have lost our true self, we find instead, that we have actually found our authentic selves…….righteous, sanctified and redeemed sons and daughters of our KING!
JEREMIAH 9: 23-24 “THUS SAYS THE LORD: “LET NOT THE WISE MAN BOAST IN HIS WISDOM, LET NOT THE MIGHTY MAN BOAST IN HIS MIGHT, LET NOT THE RICH MAN BOAST IN HIS RICHES, BUT LET HIM WHO BOASTS BOAST IN THIS, THAT HE UNDERSTANDS AND KNOWS ME, THAT I AM THE LORD WHO PRACTICES STEADFAST LOVE, JUSTICE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS IN THE EARTH. FOR IN THESE THINGS I DELIGHT , DECLARES THE LORD.”
