BEING PURPOSEFUL NOT PERFECT

Are you one of those people that have to have everything “just perfect”?  I used to be one who ran in those circles. You know what I mean, the girl with perfect hair, makeup and dress.  I tried so hard at it daily to the point of wearing myself out with comparison to other women and trying to keep up or to be like “her” who was always perfect in my eyes.

But when you accept the fact that you are a sinner and that CHRIST was the only perfect ONE who was the perfect atonement for our sins, you stop……..you stop and accept yourself as a flawed, broken human being.  And you stop running after those things that at one time you thought would make you perfectly happy.

Being a follower of CHRIST has taught me that we live in a broken and not so perfect world and that there is nothing here on earth that is perfect.  The ONE who was perfect without sin is waiting for us……..HE waits for us to turn and live purposefully for HIM, because there is an eternal purpose that CHRIST has for us.

So do you live trying to have that perfect life or do you live with purpose?

I added the picture above because it is a yucca plant that grew the blooms one month in my front yard. When I discovered it, my mouth fell open because I thought the blooms were so perfect and delicate.  It lasted quite a while too……..but then, it started to turn brown, the blooms fell off and what was left is now a dead stalk.  It’s perfection was gone so quickly!  But each day I walked by it, I purposefully took the time to stare at it and take it all in with wonder and awe.  I honestly couldn’t believe something so beautiful had decided to grow in my desert yard!

And like that plant I have come to realize that perfection here, will not happen.  Like that perfect looking plant, it didn’t last! Perfection might look like a good thing to attain for yourself, but you soon know that perfection is empty and impossible to attain, no matter what your effort for it is.

Perfection is left only to the ONE who was the perfect sacrifice.  There is only JESUS who was completely without sin.  Leave perfection behind for yourself and start to follow the only true perfect ONE……..live with HIS purpose!

GOD’S purpose is the only purpose to live for in our broken world……

EPHESIANS 1: 9-10 “…….MAKING KNOWN TO US, THE MYSTERY OF HIS WILL, ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE, WHICH HE SET FORTH IN CHRIST, AS A PLAN FOR THE FULLNESS OF TIME, TO UNITE ALL THINGS IN HIM, THINGS IN HEAVEN AND THINGS ON EARTH.”

GOD in HIS infinite wisdom, has a plan with a purpose and we, as CHRIST followers have many blessings, but we also have the responsibility to live with a Godly and Holy purpose.

If we live with purpose, we will not miss seeing…….seeing the eternal and HIS fingerprints on those people and those things around us.  Instead of trying to be perfect, we will strive with purpose to live in HIS plan, a plan with a purpose for us!

PROVERBS 16:4 “THE LORD HAS MADE EVERYTHING FOR IT’S PURPOSE.”

If we are purposeful, we will give a wholehearted and intentional effort into all we do and say.  We will worship, serve and study with purpose, never going through the motions.

Think about this……..being so busy trying to be perfect allows us to forget GOD, but living with purpose for HIM sets HIM as the only priority in our lives. We will live for HIM, not for our own perfection.  Actually living for HIM is easier because HE said: “My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11: 30

Our purposeful pursuit of HIM is living for GOD, in communion with HIM, loving others as HE loves us.  So who will you love today with a GODLY purpose in mind?

PSALM 19:7 “THE LAW OF THE LORD IS PERFECT, REVIVING THE SOUL.”

  1. Well done and great job in bringing out the truth regarding the perfection of Jesus, that He is not only perfect, but the only perfect being to “put on” human flesh. I also enjoy your Southwest references; they remind me of my 22 years in New Mexico. I miss the desert!
