IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BRANCH

DID YOU KNOW that the word branch is another name for Messiah?

Actually the word branch is mentioned a few times in the Bible, especially in the Old Testament in reference to the coming of a Savior…….

JEREMIAH 23:5 “BEHOLD THE DAYS ARE COMING, DECLARES THE LORD, WHEN I WILL RAISE UP FOR DAVID A RIGHTEOUS BRANCH, AND HE SHALL REIGN AS KING AND DEAL WISELY, AND SHALL EXECUTE JUSTICE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS IN THE LORD.”

Our cosmos from the beginning of time is a grand design and heavenly temple of GOD where HE said:  “behold, I will bring my servant, the BRANCH.”  ZECHARIAH 3:8

I sit each morning beside the tree and ponder those branches, thinking how branches of a tree reach towards the sky with unending HOPE.  The lights draw me near…….do you see a tree of HOPE and wonder?

I think it is profound that GOD calls JESUS the BRANCH and ultimately HE died on a tree.  Branches on a tree grow larger and stronger each year and always seem to reach……just as JESUS’ arms reached as far as the East is from the West, just for us, just for you and for me, and for all of our sins.   JESUS was connected to that tree in HIS final hours, but instead of the tree being a shade and shelter, the tree was HIS pain and our sin.

When JESUS walked the earth, “the BRANCH of the LORD” was beautiful and glorious and fruitful…….

ISAIAH 11:1 “THERE SHALL COME FORTH A SHOOT FROM THE STUMP OF JESSE, AND A BRANCH FROM HIS ROOTS SHALL BEAR FRUIT.”

The Messianic King came from the shoot of Jesse who was David’s father.  And this is mentioned in the book of Isaiah over and over…….

ISAIAH 11:10 “IN THAT DAY THE ROOT OF JESSE WHO SHALL STAND AS A SIGNAL FOR THE PEOPLE’S – OF HIM SHALL THE NATIONS INQUIRE, AND HIS RESTING PLACE SHALL BE GLORIOUS.”

JESUS IS THE COMPLETE AND PERFECT FULFILLMENT OF THE PROMISE OF THE BRANCH MENTIONED IN ISAIAH.  AND WE AS HIS PEOPLE, ARE THE BRANCHES THAT HE PRUNES TO TRANSFORM US INTO HIS LIKENESS.

May we live as HIS branches on HIS tree of abundant life…….may we reach outward and upward as we grow and transform into images of HIS love and grace.

Because Christmas is all about the Babe in the Manger who went to the Cross and died on that tree…….just for us………and all for our sins.

May we remember the BRANCH this Christmas that is always there reaching for us in the darkness of our days – the Cross stands alone, because we too are alone, and we need JESUS.

This Christmas, ponder those branches on your tree and in doing, remember the Messiah that came to save the world, because GOD loves us and doesn’t want to leave us the way HE found us.  Take time this Christmas to stop and consider the Christmas story.  Place yourself there……..experience the star, and the Babe and the straw and the cradle.  HIS story for all mankind really does have a glorious ending……..may we see and know and remember.

ISAIAH 41: 19-20 “I WILL PLANT IN THE WILDERNESS THE CEDAR AND THE ACACIA TREE, THE MYRTLE AND THE OIL TREE; I WILL SET IN THE DESERT THE CYPRESS TREE AND THE PINE AND THE BOX TREE TOGETHER, THAT THEY MAY SEE AND KNOW, AND CONSIDER AND UNDERSTAND TOGETHER, THAT THE HAND OF THE LORD HAS DONE THIS, AND THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL HAS CREATED IT.”
