This Christmas can be different…….did you know? I am a believer of traditions too, but I also believe that since GOD changes our hearts daily that we can change some traditions, and make new ones!
We do tend to get stuck in Christmas ruts…….we do things a certain way, because we always have “done them that way.” We do gatherings in the same way and gift giving the same each year and even put the tree in the same corner.
Since my husband is out of work this season, our budget is smaller all around, but that hasn’t stopped me from being grateful for all that we have, where we live, and the treasured people that are in my life, especially those lifelong friends. I have had to rethink how I can “give” this Christmas.
Yesterday I started putting out all those small treasured Christmas items around the house and the tree is up too……..but in a different place! Oh how our world will give you the message of buy, buy and buy more! But oh how we have so much right under our roofs! The world says, you don’t have this…….but JESUS says: “you have ME.”
The Christmas season always is about the gift…….but the true gift is JESUS HIMSELF. HE came into our broken world as a gift of love and grace to us. HIS kindness and love being abundant for others and our own kindness and love can shine just as bright this season too.
Kindness sown comes in many forms, all of which require sacrifice and being humble. In the midst of our own brokenness and troubles, thinking of those around us changes our perspective and understanding of JESUS and HIS sacrifice on the Cross for us.
This Christmas you can be the one who gives anonymously. Pay for the person behind you in the drive thru line, give up that coveted parking spot, ring the doorbell of a neighbor, leave a baked treat at their door, then run before they see you!
As Christians we are supposed to spread love and peace in our circles of influence and scripture says:
MATTHEW 5:9 “BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS FOR THEY SHALL BE CALLED SONS OF GOD.”
It is one thing to believe and quite another to live it out daily and not just at Christmas either. If our faith is in CHRIST who gave HIS life as a living sacrifice, shouldn’t we be willing to give our lives as a living sacrifice to others as well?
1 PETER 2: 5 “……..YOU YOURSELVES LIKE LIVING STONES ARE BEING BUILT UP AS A SPIRITUAL HOUSE, TO BE A HOLY PRIESTHOOD TO OFFER SPIRITUAL SACRIFICES ACCEPTABLE TO GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.”
Since the GOD of the universe came down to touch our hearts of stone and turn them into flesh, touch someone’s heart with the gift of your time or talent this year. The best gifts given are never bought!
Call that someone you haven’t spoken to in years, send that card with a heartfelt written note, smile more and give those around you compliments and encouragement. Do for others most what matters in the light of eternity, because eternal things matter most!
The smallest seed of kindness can reach far beyond a broken one’s world…….we all are broken in some way.
Our world now more than ever needs Christmas………the world needs GOD’S healing touch. Share the gospel, challenge someone to go read the gospel of JOHN. Give them your Bible to read, then offer to discuss with them and answer any questions…….do it over coffee at your home around your Christmas tree.
I have decided this year because I live in AZ and I know it will last awhile due to no precipitation, is to walk throughout my neighborhood and write with chalk on the ground: “you are loved”. Then end it with a Cross.
Be different this season………love differently, give differently, but always with kindness of heart. Give the gift of your presence to others as well, because the seed of kindness is priceless. Love came down that first Christmas, just for us. Let us share in that sacrificial spirit of love for one another………be different this year………be kind……..be the gift.
What will you do different this Christmas? Would love to hear from you dear reader!
ROMANS 6: 23 “FOR THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH, BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.”
