Our nation is going through a big trial right now. The devastation of hurricane Harvey is beyond words. If I try to put into words the magnitude of it, honestly, I have none. Do you? The pictures break my heart.
Let us try to put ourselves in the shoes of the state of Texas. Very quickly you realize that their present circumstances are overwhelming to say the least. Actually what they are in right now is in the middle of a testimony.
What I mean by that is their new story has begun and one day it will be their complete story of faith and how GOD was with them in the midst of that awful storm. They are feeling tested right now I am sure…….that is what a testimony is.
Over and over again I have heard GOD mentioned and praised on national TV. In the middle of the flood waters, yes, you see…….GOD IS GOOD…….GOD is there. HIS light of goodness is shining brightly in all those dark waters.
Our LORD illuminates. HE illuminates HIS people, HIS heroes and HIS word. There is no mistake that HIS people are there to help those flood victims in Texas. Their offer of help will rise above the flood waters to something new and better. And we, as a nation are providing for them in a number of ways. Their present testimony is ongoing and will be for many years to come.
Let us not miss the message……. that family, friends, and human life is precious and that when we lose the stuff, we turn to one another for comfort, but let us always turn to our LORD first. We know that the people of our nation are speaking, praying and giving from their hearts right now, and GOD knows too.
I am struck by the fact that the hurricane did not take away people’s faith. And their faith through this difficult time……. shines brightly!
But that is how GOD works…….in the darkness, HE illuminates and HE shines.
The world, the weather, and even people will try to take stuff from you, but one thing cannot be taken and that is your belief, your faith. Your faith when strong and true, will always survive because standing on GOD alone, is like standing on a ROCK.
PSALM 40:2 ” HE SET MY FEET ON A ROCK AND GAVE ME A FIRM PLACE TO STAND.”
A rock is strong, immovable, stable, secure and certain…….
PSALM 18:2 “THE LORD IS MY ROCK, MY FORTRESS AND MY DELIVERER; MY GOD IS MY ROCK, IN WHOM I TAKE REFUGE.
It might seem like the world is winning right now, like evil is everywhere, but all you have to do is look up and see GOD, the ROCK of all creation……JESUS is alive and HE overcomes and restores and redeems. Our world is fallen and yes, broken, but the LORD continues to reign.
Let us pray as a nation for courage for our fellow believers and all Texans who are currently in the middle of their testimony. May their faith remain strong and true and secure like the ROCK on which they stand. GOD’S eternal power will remain with them now and forever…….strong and secure and illuminated for all to see!
1 SAMUEL 2: 2 “THERE IS NO ONE HOLY LIKE THE LORD; THERE IS NO ONE BESIDES YOU; THERE IS NO ROCK LIKE OUR GOD.”
