ENOUGH LIGHT FOR THE STEP I AM ON

There are times when I feel out of step with GOD, but HE never fails to give me just enough light for the step I am on.

There are times when I am uncertain which way to turn and when that happens I take stock to make sure I am being obedient to HIS word.  Sometimes it takes discipline……..discipline in prayer, devotion and study.  Sometimes it requires waiting and that is the hard thing because it requires resting and listening.  When I am out of step I realize that I am not putting GOD first.  It’s funny how we as humans, always revert back to being self- reliant.

We must be vigilant about our spiritual walk, because those missteps will cause us one by one, to wander farther from the TRUTH.  It happens in a subtle way, missing a Sunday here and there at Church, not going to a regular Bible study, and the excuses pile up.  But before you know it, you look and wonder: how did I get here?

The danger of self-reliance is pride…….pride comes before a fall.  Pride leads to being out of step with GOD.

The LORD dislikes arrogance. Our world is full of arrogant people who seem to think they are always the smartest person in the room.  It’s sad really, because they can’t think past themselves.  It is an insecurity in many ways to make themselves feel better, while tearing down all those around them.  Pride is everywhere on social media too.  People seem to want to have that last say in a matter, without really thinking about how their words can hurt and destroy.  People who are prideful are not teachable, but people who are humble realize they need a wise teacher.  And that wise teacher is JESUS.  HIS pure wisdom is found on the pages of the New Testament in the Bible.

Our world will tell you that you are weak if you believe in JESUS.  So pride and an unwillingness to follow an all wise Shepherd will lead many down paths of heartache and destruction, especially when they try to do things on their own. Not yielding to GOD puts us out of step with HIM. Do we try to justify a partial following of JESUS and HIS commands? Yes, we all seem to chose a compromise with HIM, but there isn’t any compromise to be had.  We are either all in for the TRUTH or we are not.  We all have to live in the present world, but oh how we shouldn’t fall into it’s darkness!  Only a GOD who loves us so much, who gave HIS only SON as a sacrifice for our sins, can lead us triumphantly on a path filled with light and love!

I think the more you fill yourself with GOD’S WORD, the more it gets into your heart and soul.  You start to walk securely with the LORD and your steps take you in the direction of eternity rather than darkness.  You are aware of sin and you learn to say no.  When you learn to say no, you learn obedience.  Realizing your sin is a tough one my friends, but what is more important is to acknowledge that we need a Savior in JESUS to stand in the gap for us for our sins.

If we are GOD-focused, then we are not self-focused.  Is there something in your life that is so all consuming that you can’t see past it……..or yourself?  Are you consumed with solving your problem?  Are you in a state of worry day and night?  If I find myself thinking in these terms, then I know I am out of step with GOD.  I know that I am stepping away from HIM rather than towards HIM……..

PSALM 17:5 “UPHOLD MY STEPS IN YOUR PATHS,

THAT MY FOOTSTEPS MAY NOT SLIP.”

Through prayer and petition and seeking GOD’S WORD, you will discover that HE does give you just the right amount of light for the step you are on……..

PSALM 119: 105 “YOUR WORD IS A LAMP TO MY FEET

AND A LIGHT TO MY PATH.”

Isn’t that a great comfort?  Just to know that GOD’S true WORD is your light for your path?  If you abide daily in the WORD then you have all you need to move forward even when you can’t see beyond that first step.

If I am only a hearer of the WORD, but never put it into practice, then essentially I’m at a standstill, not taking that first step with GOD who leads and teaches.  So when I step out in faith, then HIS light on that step is enough.  But I must step first. We all seem to wait and procrastinate too long. It is so easy to do and we get comfortable there.  But that is easy faith, the kind where you believe, but don’t do anything about it.

You see, many are called, but few answer and choose to step out in faith with GOD.  TRUST HIS LIGHT!  Beware of the darkness. Pray the HOLY SPIRIT OF TRUTH will guide you daily to step…….and step…….and step into HIS light!

1 PETER 2:21 “FOR TO THIS YOU HAVE BEEN CALLED BECAUSE CHRIST ALSO SUFFERED FOR YOU, LEAVING YOU AN EXAMPLE, SO THAT YOU MIGHT FOLLOW IN HIS STEPS.”

  1. Drew and I are definitely in a “one step at a time” phase right now. Talk about a faith walk!! It’s so hard when what you really want is a big revelation, a big breakthrough, a big magic bullet…but instead, it’s just taking the next step you know to take!! We trust Him and we know the path is leading somewhere, even if we can’t see it.

  2. You have once again written a blog post just to me! It’s wonderful how God’s word reaches into our hearts and can even feel like we are the only ones meant to hear/know those words! Yet of course we know that He is with us all and lighting our way when we yield to Him, follow Him and obey Him!
