My Mom used to say I was wise beyond my years………
As a young girl I really didn’t understand what she meant by that………me wise? I was looking at my Mom as the wise and all knowing one! But what I remember most about our Mother – daughter times, was sitting together on the couch every day after school and chatting with one another. Besides talking about school or my friends, the conversation would always turn towards life in general and the future.
Our conversations lasted for hours until my Dad came home from work. During the winter I knew we were talking for a while because we would have to turn on the lights in the living room due to the early dusk. Oh how I loved the coziness of it all! My Mom’s love was a safe place for me and her wisdom was a treasure.
Mom encouraged me with the understanding that life itself gave you wisdom. I also understood from her that there was worldly wisdom and also GODLY wisdom. One perishes over time, the other is eternal.
Our self-centered world today seems to be less and less wise. I love the phrase “wise men still seek HIM”. The wise men of so long ago did just that. And maybe we should too!
You can go to Church, and read all you want and still not be wise! True eternal wisdom is only found in one place: the BIBLE. But you need to study it with all your heart, use it as your anchor and live and apply it’s wisdom. GOD wants a heartfelt page turner and not someone checking HIM off of their to do list everyday. Doesn’t matter where you turn in the GOOD BOOK, old or new testaments, because wisdom will be found on each and every page.
So are you just reading the words or are you really letting them sink deep down into your soul? Remember, a well worn BIBLE is one that is used! There is wonder in the WORD, in and of itself. And our being drawn daily to it is a good thing because:
THE TRUE WISDOM AND WONDER OF THE WORD IS FOREVER IN IT’S MESSAGE…….
JOHN 1:14: “THE WORD BECAME HUMAN AND LIVED AMONG US.”
Christ came down and GOD’S love came down to us for all the world to embrace…….isn’t it a wonder?
But you have to desire the WORD above all else……..you should be seeking it and feel a passion for it. The BIBLE and it’s WORD is pure spiritual milk for the soul. And the wisdom drawn from it is priceless!
ISN’T IT A WONDER THAT THE BIBLE IS STILL THE MOST READ BOOK IN THE WORLD?
In First Kings 3 in the old testament, it tells the story of Solomon and how GOD gave him the opportunity to ask for anything he wanted and how Solomon chose wisdom. Because it was an unselfish choice, Solomon’s behavior after GOD blessed him. He showed so much insight into problems, that the people were in awe of this King.
We too, as Christians should want GOD’S wisdom above all else. Yes, wisdom is a treasure in this world, but when we have wisdom, we will be tested and tested, only to have that wisdom refined and purified. We will know the difference of right and wrong and our faith in GOD’S WORD for us will increase. When we don’t have the answers, we will seek the WORD that is truth.
Yes, years add to wisdom. The more you live life, over time, the more wisdom you have. But just make sure your wisdom is the GODLY kind. GOD’S wisdom will create in you the ability to be insightful, to “see” where others can’t. You will have a keen perspective on issues and the LORD will help you if you ask HIM.
May we all learn to love and desire wisdom, because GOD’S wisdom can be trusted, so you when you think about it……..
WISE MEN…….. STILL SEEK HIM!
Is there some GODLY wisdom you have trusted and embraced wholeheartedly? Leave a comment because I would love to hear from you!
