WHY GOD KNOWS BEST WHICH CROSS WE SHOULD BEAR

As he walked into the Sanctuary, I noticed him……bent over and walking with steps that were unsure.  He was an older gentleman, dressed very nice……the way people used to dress coming to Church.  One look at him and my heart broke wondering what his days were like.

As Christians we should look upon others with empathy and compassion, but we should never envy those that seem to have it all together and living the high life, because in reality we really never know what Cross they may have to carry.  And in turn, we should never look at someone suffering and think, oh thank GOD that’s not me!  Because we don’t know what could be right around the corner for us!

I often wonder why some have to bear more than others…….back to the sweet man I mentioned earlier.  I serve communion with my buddy and we have a system down with each other as to what rows we will each serve. Well wouldn’t you know it in my next row, there sat that sweet man on the end seat.  As I bent low to hold the tray in front of him, I watched as his very shaky hand struggled to pick up the bread and with great difficulty he dipped it in the cup.  My eyes filled with tears as I watched him pass the plate very carefully to the person sitting next to him.  You see, he was there all alone and I wondered what his story was.  What crosses did he bear daily?  What trials had he endured during his life? Were there happy and wonderful moments too?  Were his memories full of GOD’S grace?  What was he thinking about as he took communion?

ECCLESIASTES 3: 1 “TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON, A TIME FOR EVERY PURPOSE UNDER HEAVEN.”

In order for us to be content in GOD’S love, we must trust that our lives really are perfectly made just for us.  The daily crosses we bear and the weight of them tend to be just right for each one of us!  If you trust the CROSS, then you must trust the crosses given to you in your life.  We often ask “why me?” But will we choose to carry our crosses with humility and still have joy in the journey?

ECCLESIASTES 7:14 “IN THE DAY OF PROSPERITY BE JOYFUL, BUT IN THE DAY OF ADVERSITY CONSIDER: SURELY GOD HAS APPOINTED THE ONE AS WELL AS THE OTHER.”

And surely, our all-knowing Father will give us only as much as we can bear up under……..

ISAIAH 42: 3 “A BRUISED REED HE WILL NOT BREAK.”

SINCE CHRIST CARRIED THE CROSS FOR ME, SHOULDN’T I BE MORE THAN WILLING TO BEAR MY OWN CROSS WITH HUMBLE SUBMISSION?

ISN’T MY CROSS EASIER TO BEAR WITH CHRIST HELPING ME TO CARRY IT?

We are never alone when we pick up our cross. Knowing what we’ve been through, the joys and the sorrows and let’s consider what we have learned spiritually and how we have grown through grace…….would you really want to trade your cross for someone else’s? Isn’t it really an affront to GOD to compare?

Aren’t we all walking our path the best we can with just enough light to take one step at a time, lifting our Crosses as we go? I know some crosses are lighter than others, some are even prettier than others and some are almost unbearable.  There was only ONE in history who truly knows the weight of your CROSS!  Remember in the Garden of Gethsemane?  JESUS asked GOD to remove the weight of the Cross that was ahead of HIM…….Matthew 26: 39: “O my Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from ME.”  If it is possible……the LORD knows what is, and what will be and HE knows what our Cross is and what it will be.  HE knows the type, shape and weight of each of our crosses and we should never envy anyone else’s because HE has chosen just what each of us need.  And doesn’t HE know best?  Shouldn’t we trust HIM for it?  Better yet, shouldn’t we surrender to it?

I wonder if I surrendered my cross more to JESUS would the weight of it be……..lighter?  Would I learn to embrace it and carry it…… joyfully?  How about you?

CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS BECAUSE HE DIDN’T WANT TO LIVE WITHOUT US AND HE DIDN’T WANT US TO LIVE WITHOUT HIS SPECIAL LOVE.

May we never forget what GOD did for us. May we never forget the CROSS.  And may we never forget to willingly pick up our own crosses daily with open hands, because when we do, they will set us free.

GALATIANS 6: 14 “BUT GOD FORBID THAT I SHOULD BOAST EXCEPT IN THE CROSS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST…….”
