WITH THIS BEING THE WEEK OF EASTER MY MIND TURNS TO THE LAST DAYS BEFORE JESUS WAS CRUCIFIED……..
The Last Supper is well documented in all four Gospels and CHRIST’S example of how we are to remember HIM is still done today in all Christian Churches. I am honored to be able to serve Communion in my Church each Sunday. When I pass the plate down the row I also have the opportunity to watch and observe how people take the bread and dip it into the cup. Some people barely touch the wine with their bread, while others are not afraid to dip deeply into the cup.
The wine represents the blood of the covenant which CHRIST shed for the forgiveness of our sins. GOD keeps HIS covenants with us…….but it is on our end where we fall short. JESUS was the new covenant……..HE was and is the Lamb who takes away the sins of the world. I often wonder what the disciples thought as they sat around the table with their JESUS as HE talked about the body and the blood. Their brains must have been screaming: wait, what are you talking about?! As JESUS took the cup, HE looked at the men in front of HIM and said: “drink from it, all of you.” Matthew 26: 27.
To drink it all in………that’s the kind of faith I want. JESUS didn’t say: “you might want to drink some of this.” No HE commanded them to drink and HE said for all present to drink deep. And aren’t there Christians like that? There are some that are on the fringes of the Church…….they go here and there, never really getting involved or too close for anyone to “know” them………that way their sins aren’t known either. But what they don’t realize is that GOD knows, so why are they hiding? Why not just “drink it all in”, fully and completely? Because with JESUS, you are either all in or not!
JESUS asked HIS disciples to “follow” HIM…….always…….not some of the time. If we truly drink from the cup, completely, then we are all in, fully committed, no matter what and not just some of the time, or when it is convenient for us!
DRINK……..ALL OF YOU.
That doesn’t mean think about it, or do it later when you have time. The time is now my friends. And all means all…….every one of us! JESUS gave us the cup and shed HIS blood for our sins…….not for some of our sins, but for all of our sins!! It is a gift to us. It is a gift of grace. Stop trying to earn it. Realize that the cup of HIS blood is handed to you, not to be taken back if you do something wrong. Confess your sin right now, because forgiveness waits! Take the cup with both hands and drink deep.
HIS BLOOD SHED FOR US, REDEEMS US AND RESTORES.
Drinking from HIS cup is a surrender, a willingness to admit that CHRIST gives and we receive.
When we open our hands and hearts to accept the blood of the cup, we become vulnerable and authentic. CHRIST said “drink” because salvation is there and we thirst…….this Easter, it’s simple, accept the Cup of Salvation. You don’t need to earn it, you just need to receive it.
LUKE 22:20 “THIS IS THE NEW COVENANT IN MY BLOOD, WHICH IS SHED FOR YOU.”
