What is enough? When we look elsewhere for enough to fill us up, we find there never is quite enough. Aren’t we always looking to fill or complete or to get more of something? Why do we look elsewhere in this dark world when the GOD who said HE is enough is standing at the Cross right in front of us?
OFTEN we try to buy our way into a happiness that never lasts.
Our culture tells us we must buy…….shelves are full of pretty items. But after we buy and buy, we are empty again and so we buy even more! We are on this merry-go-round of consumption. We always want more. Society tells us buy more, do more, be more…….more, more, more! When is it all enough?
CHRIST said that HE alone is enough. When we need to fill ourselves…..we need to fill our souls with HIM. Yes we try to fill even with food, but we aren’t satisfied there either. When we are running on empty and there is no one or nothing that can fill…….HE does! Over time our lives become vessels of HIS grace and not because we asked for it……HIS grace is a gift that fills.
ROMANS 15:13 “NOW MAY THE GOD OF HOPE FILL YOU……”
Our lives will run on empty sooner rather than later and when we come to the end of ourselves, and we always do, CHRIST fills us and HE is enough. HE is enough because HE never leaves us. He is always there to guide us, and hold us and love us. CHRIST is really all we need. Isn’t HIS pure grace for all our days truly enough? Doesn’t our GOD know us better than we know ourselves?
2 CORINTHIANS 12:9 “MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR YOU.”
HIS enough becomes our contentment…….. our only contentment should be in CHRIST, not wanting or needing stuff. HE becomes our joy, our treasure, our everything. Nothing else matters because CHRIST is all we need and when we have HIM, truly love HIM, we have all we need.
When our empty selves look to this world around us for anything, nothing will satisfy. Satan’s hiss tells you every day to look at the stuff around you for satisfaction and there is plenty isn’t there? We have choices in everything we own and sometimes so many choices we can’t make up our minds! Wonder how GOD feels about that, knowing we are pondering over stuff choices instead of our soul choices?
And so, JESUS says to empty yourself and fill up daily on HIM and HIS word because HE tells us: “My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:30.
If all my cares in all my days, in all my ways, could be as light as JESUS says, don’t I want that?
Therefore, let us continue to look for and seek daily all HIS blessings in all things. Let us search our souls deep and let go of all the stuff that we hang on to. Instead let us look to and reach for the ONE who is, and always will be enough…….the Holy ONE, the Sovereign ONE, the Faithful ONE, our Lord in Heaven, JESUS CHRIST.
ISAIAH 56:11 “THESE DOGS HAVE FIERCE APPETITES; THEY NEVER HAVE ENOUGH.”
