WEATHER ALERT: STORMS COMING

Recently we had a huge dust storm blow through our area here in Arizona……..the national news has shown that huge cloud coming over the valley.  It looks very ominous, but when you are in one, believe me, the air around you turns orange.  You don’t want to be outside because you actually feel the sand in your teeth!  I know this from first hand experience when I was dog sitting and had to take down a few umbrellas and move some items off of a patio.

I am amazed after one of these storms rolls through, that the evidence can be all around with tree branches down and leaves scattered about. Dust covers everything.  The dust is easy to contend with and no it doesn’t get in the house.  All I do is hose the dust off outside or sweep it up.

I can pass by homes in my neighborhood that look virtually untouched……..they have weathered the storm well.  And isn’t that like us?  Some of us weather the storms in our lives quite well, while others have a very tough time.

PSALM 107; 29 says, “HE CALMS THE STORM”.

The LORD will save us in our distress if we just cry out to HIM.  Our storms tend to turn us towards HIM and yet, there are those that run from HIM too.  Their pain is one that they believe they can handle on their own, but sooner or later they get to the end of themselves with regrets and nothing left.  More and more the world we live in lacks the type of comfort we crave and can only find in a Savior.

HE CALMS THE STORM.

Isn’t it wonderful how our turning to HIM creates in us qualities we never had before?  Could our pain turn into compassion?  GOD’S compassion for us, giving us the peace in the midst of our storm, brings our hearts closer to HIM and to others as well.  Isn’t it true that when we have been through  a storm, we can better help someone else through theirs?

HE CALMS THE STORM.

As storms go, there are some that can knock us off of our feet.  We literally feel punched in the gut and wonder when will it all end.  Often times people will say that they just want their life to get back to normal.  Some storms change our lives forever……there is a new normal.  But there is ONE who never changes, and ONE who is rock solid, and ONE who loves us above all else and ONE who says…… “I have a better way”.

HE CALMS THE STORM.

Remember JESUS in the boat with HIS disciples when a fierce storm blew all around them?  The disciples were afraid and asked JESUS: “don’t you care if we drown?” And with much patience and a careful hand, HE hushed the storm with the command: “Quiet, be still!”  What we learn from this story is that no one is exempt from life’s storms, but JESUS is in the boat with us!!  May we always hang on to the fact that no matter what comes our way today, tomorrow, or next year……..

HE WILL ALWAYS CALM THE STORM.

I don’t know what type of storm you are in.  Or maybe you just got through one, only to realize how calm the waters are! How wonderful if you are there!  But we would do well to take notice of those behind us who are still coming through.  We need to offer words of support and compassion…….let us ride alongside them if we can. Their storm will one day clear and all of us will be better for it, because we all with JESUS’ help, will become more alive, more concerned, more human and more sensitive, and even more holy.  Take heart dear reader, JESUS is always present in the boat of life wherever we choose to sail, and we can be at peace no matter how big those waves get because:

HE CALMS THE STORM.

JOHN 4: 39 “THEN HE AROSE AND REBUKED THE WIND, AND SAID TO THE SEA, “PEACE, BE STILL!”

  1. I can see the most awesome & vivid picture in my mind of Christ stretching out His Hand to calm the storm. I also picture in my mind as God looks upon His Children or things that are happening here on Earth that need His Attention, and with just one look..whatever needs to be done happens….from just the slightest glance of The Almighty!! It’s like with us as parents when just one look at our children can change their behavior & the outcome. Power in silence!!!
