TATTOOS, WALKERS AND GETTING BETTER

As I walked early that morning, they were coming toward me, her with the tattooed arms and him with his walker.  It was so ironic.  She was a picture of youth and he was not much older, but looked and struggled along as if he were 80.  It was obvious to me that a severe setback had happened to him and they were out for their daily walk to work towards some improvement.  He struggled so that if I had a chair with me I would have offered it to him.  One look at them together and my heart broke.  As I got closer I thought, dare I ask?  And so without drawing attention to what had happened, I just plainly asked: “how can I pray for you?”  The answer from him was: “just to get better.”  After they both reached down to pet my Molly pup, I wished them well, and Molly and I went on our way.

I could not stop thinking about this man and what he must be going through due to either an accident or maybe a stroke. His answer to my question was quite simple…..just to get better.  Don’t we all want that?  We want to get better, do better, be better.  Even love better.  How would you fill in the blank? I want to ……………. better.  We all seem to have that empty part of us that only a GOOD GOD can fill.

Our empty hearts and empty souls long for…….. better.

If we truly look at ourselves next to a HOLY GOD, we find that we are so lacking in all that we are.  There is only one way we can do or be better: thru our LORD JESUS CHRIST.  There are people all around us waking up daily only to find their lives empty and unfulfilled.

Our wanting to do better or be better or get better, can only happen due to the PERFECT ONE who loved, and loves us better than anyone ever has or will in history!

CHRIST is our only answer to all our earthly problems.  If you want to be better……..ask HIM.  If you want to get better……..pray to HIM.  If you want to do better…….study HIS life on earth as your example.  None of us can do anything better without HIS help.  Because that is why CHRIST came, to redeem and restore. Until we face the fact that CHRIST is the only answer in all things, we will continue to try to be better and we will fail.  If you have a personal relationship with HIM, then HE will fill you with those qualities needed in all situations.  GOD’S hand upon us gives us the freedom to just be who we are at this time today, realizing that HE will work in us anew tomorrow.  And we won’t know what that looks like until tomorrow comes!

The beauty of walking alongside CHRIST is knowing with certainty that HE IS working inside your heart and you WILL be better or do better or get better just by walking hand in hand with HIM.  You see, we don’t have to do much on our part except BELIEVE and have FAITH and live our lives according to HIS WORD.  There is freedom in walking with HIM.  A freedom to be who you are, as you are right now because HE loves you right where you are, faults and all.

HE completes and restores and redeems and heals all wounds and often in scripture HE says “I WILL.”  Take comfort in HIS statements because JESUS is a man of HIS word.  We can trust and know this about HIM the next time we ask to be better at something.

TRUST THAT HE FILLS ALL THAT WE ARE NOT………TRUST THAT HE COMPLETES ALL THAT WE LACK…….. TRUST THAT HE LOVES US MORE THAN WE WILL EVER KNOW.

LUKE 6: 21 “YOU WHO ARE NOW HUNGRY ARE BLESSED, BECAUSE YOU WILL BE FILLED.”

  1. YOU are the absolute best!!!!! How many of us would have thought or even had the courage to ask…”how can I pray for you”? Nothing more, no need to know what circumstances brought him to be dependent on a walker, you just asked to be able to pray for him. I KNOW God caused your paths to cross that day. Not only will you possibly be the only prayer warrior he may have, but you became a beacon of light for Christ that lives inside of you. May we ALL shine so brightly!!!!
