RESTING IN THE WAITING

I have noticed from observing my Molly that dogs have to wait on everything they want, because they depend on us.  They wait to be fed or to go for a walk. Their world centers around us and waiting for treats seems to be part of their DNA.

HOW OFTEN DO WE WAIT ON GOD?

All of our prayers are waiting on an answer from GOD and we learned that “HE answers in HIS time.”  But doesn’t GOD realize that we are running out of time?  We want an answer tomorrow right?  How impatient a people we are and how we could save ourselves a lot of grief, if we would just learn to……..rest……. in the waiting.

PSALM 40: 1 says:  ” I waited patiently for the LORD; And HE inclined to me and heard my cry.”  Waiting patiently means resting in that waiting.  Yes I know that being patient is not everyone’s strong suit.  I always find that when I ask GOD to help me become more patient that I become more impatient!  Could my situation be such that GOD is doing the work within me to learn how to be patient?

COULD THE WAITING BE ALL ABOUT THE LEARNING?

Whatever our situation is, we must somehow learn to……….rest.

How do we rest?  Our society is currently so impatient that it tends to rub off on us.  We have become an instant culture with the internet and cell phones and being able to tweet at whim.  Could our resting be a true opportunity to learn?

Didn’t Paul often say: ” I have learned”?  In Philippians 4: 11 he says:

“……….for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.”

RESTING……..in……..HIM…….. equals………contentment!  Our contentment should be whether we have an answer to prayer or not!

LET’S CHOOSE TO REST IN HIS ARMS DAILY……..shouldn’t we TRUST GOD that HE will answer?  We might not like HIS answer, but HE WILL answer.  As my life moves along, I am learning to rest with patience, trusting that eventually my whole heart will hear HIS voice.

GOD teaches us to rest in HIM, when the trial we are under is a long arduous journey.  It’s a fact that we all go through these types of trials, sometimes over and over.  But the good that comes out of these trials, is our drawing closer to our GOD.  Let’s rest in the waiting with a surrendered soul.  Some would think this sounds like weakness, but it actually takes strength to surrender. And when we do………we find peace in our surrender.

May we continue to learn to rest in GOD’S promises in scripture too!  There are many scriptures where GOD is speaking to us where HE begins with the words: “I WILL”.  It should be a comfort to us to realize that GOD is true to HIS word.  Next time you are feeling anxious during your waiting time, just read through Isaiah and see how often the LORD says HE will accomplish something.  HE is a GOD of HIS word and the GOD of trust.

SO FIND REST MY FRIENDS, whether you are waiting for answered prayer or in the middle of a trial needing encouragement.  Just stop, be still……breathe deep with HIM…….and rest.

EXODUS 33: 14 “AND HE SAID, MY PRESENCE WILL GO WITH YOU, AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST.”

  1. Love this, Maxine…patience is something we ALL need more of and it seems especially so with Christians. Because we KNOW we serve an All-Powerful, All-Knowing, All-Mighty God we expect things to happen as soon as we pray about it. In making us wait, albeit all in God’s Timing, He is teaching His Children patience. We can all take a lesson from our beloved pets. They ask us for something with their loving and trusting eyes and wait patiently until they receive it. They have all manner of faith that we WILL come through for them because they see and feel the love we have for them. How much more does Our Father love us, and how much more is He willing to stretch forth His Hand to comfort us and give us what we ask for? MORE than we can ever give, more than we’ll ever be willing to give.

  2. I’ve had to learn to rest even when there are no answers and no end in sight, it definitely doesn’t come naturally to me!! It’s continually casting my cares on Him and giving up control. It gets easier with practice!
